LAHORE: My country is unique in many ways. It is a country where lawyers take out processions in support of the chief justice and hold rallies in his favour, as if he were the head of a political party. It is a country where lawyers shower rose petals on the killer of a provincial governor. It is a country where a judge has to leave the country along with his family after convicting and punishing a self-confessed killer who happens to be a hero for zealots. It is a country where lawyers, legislators and judges are themselves not obedient to the law. It is a country where the chief justice of the Supreme Court says he is ignorant of his son’s activities — the son on the other hand pleads his innocence. It is a country where media owners and employees both lack professional integrity. And it is a country where might is always right and money always trumps integrity and honesty.
