Gir shocks former world champ Yousuf

KARACHI: Seventh-seed Vishan Gir downed former world amateur champion Mohammad Yousuf 4-3 in a thrilling match of the Jubilee Insurance 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship at the Karachi Gymkhana yesterday.

The see-saw match swayed in both directions after each frame but Gir managed to go past the finish line, winning 69-41, 08-82, 28-73, 97-10, 54-61, 64-51 and 48-32.

Top-seed Mohammad Asif comfortably won 4-1 against Sindh’s Bilawal Agha while Mohammad Majid defeated Farrukh Usman with a similar scoreline. Defending champion Imran Shehzad edged out the talented Abdul Sattar 4-2. In other matches, Abu Saim defeated Naveen Perwani 4-1 while Mohammad Asif Toba eased to a 4-1 win over Mohammad Nazeer. Umair Alam and Shahram Changezi got the better of Mohammad Javed and Jawed Ansari 4-2 respectively.
