KARACHI: Several Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) coaches are not pleased with the board’s persistence with Shahid Aslam as part of the national team setup while the others get overlooked.
Aslam is currently serving as the national team’s assistant manager as well as the PCB’s Manager Coach Education. He has been associated with the national team as throw-down specialist and fielding coach as well while no other qualified coach has been given a chance in the last couple of years.
“The PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf should look into this as Aslam is using his close association with Intikhab Alam to keep his place with the national team,” a coach told The Express Tribune. “There are better coaches than him in Pakistan.”
It is also believed that Aslam’s role with the team is also affecting his other role in the PCB and, according to the other coaches, the board should look beyond Aslam.
“The board should give others a chance as promised by the chairman on his appointment because, this way, other coaches in the country will be groomed and there’ll be no need to appoint foreign coaches in the longer run.”
