Pre-planning: ‘LGH is prepared for dengue’

Sri Lankan experts briefed on hospital’s preparations against outbreak.

A team of Sri Lankan experts visited Lahore General Hospital (LGH) on Tuesday to monitor preparations to treat a possible dengue virus outbreak during current year.


The team consisting of Dr Toshar, Dr Paba and Dr Veeramon was briefed by LGH Post Graduate Medical Institution Principal Professor Tariq Salahuddin on the hospital’s preparations to combat a dengue outbreak.

LGH Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Hassan, Professor Ghayasun Nabi, Professor Agha Shibir Ali, Professor Jawad Zaheer and Nursing School Principal Professor Salutullah Khan were present.

Salahuddin told the visiting team that LGH had established a dengue control cell under the Dengue Preventive Plan 2012.

He said that the Health Education Programme was also underway to sensitise hospital staff and deliver special lectures at various colleges on preventive measures against dengue. He said that dengue training had been imparted to LGH doctors, nurses and paramedics. He said that the hospital administration had established high dependency units and equipped them with modern machinery. A website on dengue and an SMS service have also been launched, he added.

Salahuddin said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had allocated funds and recruited more nurses for hospitals last year to help treatment measures.

“People thought all types of fever were dengue fever last year but the government has launched a campaign for to raise awareness on the differences between the two,” he said.

He said that LGH has started to keep the OPD open for 12 hours and its laboratory facility has been updated and its prices were being monitored.
