FAISALABAD:

Soon after the medical examination of the man, who was beaten and humiliated in public by his wife’s family on Friday, confirmed assault and rape, Mamonkanjan police registered cases against 35 people.

The complainant said he and his wife were abducted by her family, after which she was taken to an unknown place while he was beaten in public. He was also paraded on a donkey with a shoe garland around his neck and his face painted black. Those named in the FIR include Muhammad Ali, Khadim Hussain, Muhammad Sarwar, Maqbool Ahmad, Shaukat Ali, Liaqat Ali, Asad Ali, Asif, Arshad, Asghar and Ghulam Fareed. The victim had married a widow from the neighbourhood a few weeks ago and moved to Jhang. On Friday, he and the girl were brought back by the girl’s family, who had earlier registered an abducting case against the man and accused him of “wooing” their daughter into marrying him. Police said they were looking for those named in the FIR.
