Policemen lectured on gender-based violence

Human rights, laws on crimes against children, crime investigation, DNA tests and crimes against women discussed.

SARGODHA:


A one-day training workshop on Gender-based Violence and Police was arranged in Sargodha on Friday.


The workshop was attended by station house officers and investigation officers of all police stations in Sargodha and Khushab. The topics covered in the lectures included: human rights, laws on crimes against children, crime investigation on scientific basis and DNA tests and crimes against women.

These lectures were delivered by Umar Farooq Malik of the Home Department, Gender Reform Action Plan (GRAP) deputy director (coordination) Anees Ahmed Chaudhry, Gender specialists Tahira Rahman Bushra Ahmed, trainer Rana Shahid Mahmood and Saddar SHO Amir Shirazi.

Regional police officer Amjad Javed Saleemi directed the participants of the workshop to study a booklet compiled by the department on gender-based violence to prepare for a written examination scheduled after a week.

He said the next workshop would be arranged for junior policemen deputed at police stations.

The workshop was organised in accordance with the women empowerment package announced by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on March 8, 2012.
