Country rankings

Published: May 18, 2012

DOHA: This is with reference to your report of May 17 titled “Iran, Pakistan, Israel most negatively rated countries: BBC poll”.

Our rating shows where we stand in the world. This affects our trade, industry, health, education, import, export, financial situation and even our tourism industry. Countries at the bottom of the list, like Pakistan, will find it very hard to move forward because of their poor image.

This is the reason why our prime minister said in a television interview that the one-third Pakistanis who want to leave the country could leave whenever they wanted to because “who is stopping them from leaving”. The prime minister knew that no country would like to take us and that most of us will be stuck here for the rest of our lives.

We do not care about these surveys because we are illiterates — as illiterate as we were a thousand years ago. While the world has progressed and reached the sky, we are still in the pits. For us, it really does not matter whether we are at the top or the bottom of the ratings because we have no self-esteem.

17 May 2012 – Tribune’s front page shares with us the PM’s brilliant idea to overcome electricity shortfall by printing more currency, the “Einsteinic” theory, further told, is backed by the Interior Minister. Less than a week back, while talking to a Brit journalist PM spilled yet another of his “Quotable Quote” suggesting frustrated Pakistanis to simply leave the country. Just about two weeks back, PM has been convicted for contempt of court. Last night I was going through “Foreign policy’s failed States Index 2011” ironically my Country is placed at number 12 out of 177 states, much more failed than North Korea, Bangladesh or Iran. My country is among the last three states left with Polio on earth along wirh Afghanistan and Nigeria. Mr C.S Smith (an American) in his article “Shoot the Drones” published on 17th May in Tribune is grieved to note that US Drone Attacks on Pakistan are illegal and violate Pakistani law. Isn’t it ironic that a US Lawyer/charity director feels more for the plight of our people than our very own PM? Few days back, US President B Obama was in Afghanistan talking to his troops at Bagram, can anyone remind me if our President or PM or Defence Minister ever visited our soldiers in FATA? I can go on with my woes but I will never be audible to the deaf (dumb actually) ears.
Thank God, Jinnah and Iqbal are already dead, for if they had not …. they would die of heart arrest seeing Pakistan in such horrific shape.

Pakistan can never be a failed state as long as it is allowed to copy during the final exam.

@Sohail: Looking at the quality of leadership, democracy and past election performances, do you still believe that election results reflect awam’s support?
