Retired generals, admirals and air marshals

Published: May 16, 2012

LAHORE: This is with reference to Air Vice-Marshal (retd) Shahzad Chaudhry’s article of May 15 titled “A little help for the DCC”.

The problem with our retired generals is that when they are in service, and especially when their period of service happens to be martial law, they forget all norms of diplomacy or that the economy is vulnerable and the internal dangers the country faces. I don’t remember a single instance of a general, admiral or air marshal resigning in protest against the imposition of martial law.

Name one general, air marshal, admiral or civil bureaucrat, serving or retired, who ever considered it immoral and inappropriate to get more than one expensive real estate plot, in a country where 80% of poor do not own a house. Everybody of any consequence, including media icons have contributed to the mess and economic collapse of this country by plundering it in the garb of perks and discretionary powers.
