Fatal incidents: Violence claims four lives

The killings took place in Orangi, Liaquatabad, Sohrab Goth and Baldia Town.

KARACHI: At least four people, including a Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist, were killed in separate incidents on Monday.

Gulab Khan, 42, son of Shah Wali Khan, was shot and killed in Frontier Colony, Orangi Town, under Pirabad police limits. Gulan hailed from Peshawar and worked as a transporter.

Police said that he was on his way home in Qasba Colony with his son when two unidentified men on a motorcycle fired at him. He died on the spot and his body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. SHO Piyaro Khan said that initial investigation and family statements suggested that the culprits had killed Gulab over a personal enmity. A case was registered against three of the victim’s relatives, Janata, Ejaz and Naveed.

In another incident, the owner of a chicken shop was killed in Liaquatabad, within Super Market police limits. The deceased was identified as 51-year-old Mukhtiar Qureshi, son of Ibrahim Qureshi. SHO Mumtaz Ahmed said that an unidentified man on a motorcycle had shot and killed Qureshi when he was standing outside his shop. He was shot once in the head and died on the spot. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

A man identified as 23-year-old Arif, son of Haji Saher Khan, was stabbed to death outside his house in Jannat Gul Town in Sohrab Goth. Police said that the victim was a drug addict and was stabbed by a friend after the two had a disagreement. Arif was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to injuries during treatment. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

An MQM activist, Rana Asif, 44, son of Ghulam Rasool, was gunned down in Baldia Town, within Saeedabad police remits. SHO Tariq Islam said that two men riding on a motorcycle shot and injured Asif. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to injuries.

Police said that Asif was associated with MQM’s unit 112-B and that investigation into the incident was under way. Tension prevailed in the locality and commercial activities were suspended.
