CM pledges Rs220m: After 13 years, women varsity to get own hostel

After boys, CM Punjab distributes 2,723 laptops among girl students.

Students from far-flung areas in Fatima Jinnah Women University will no longer have to look for outside accommodation. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday announced a grant of Rs220 million for the construction of hostels at the university, said a press release issued by the Punjab government.


Sharif also assured that the CNBW building will soon be officially handed over to FJWU to be used as a hostel.

He was at the university as part of a laptop distribution ceremony under the Chief Minister’s e-Youth Initiative. In the ceremony, 2,723 students were given laptops.

He said that the government is well aware of the needs of modern times, which is evident from the fact that it is equipping students with modern technology and has distributed 125,000 laptop across the province.

In her welcome address, FJWU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Samina Amin Qadir said that the Punjab government has been “very supportive” of the 13-year-old university.

Higher Education Commission Chairperson Dr Javaid Laghari said that the youth should be ready to face the challenges brought on by the digital revolution. He stressed on three basic things to transform the nation: higher education and research, technology, and leadership and management.
