3 army personnel injured in roadside blast

Number of suspects arrested in search operation launched after the attack.

PESHAWAR: Three army personnel were injured when a convoy of security forces was targeted on Canal Road, within the jurisdiction of Badaber police station, on Thursday morning.

A police official told The Express Tribune that an army convoy was passing through Canal Road when it was targeted with a remote-controlled bomb near the Safan area in the suburbs of the city. The blast left one vehicle damaged and three personnel injured. The injured have been identified as Bismullah, Malik Noor and Halim.

The powerful blast caused widespread panic in the area and was followed by intense aerial firing by security personnel, which forced people to flee.

“The device was of at least 5kg intensity and was a homemade device as usual, which was detonated via a remote control,” he said, adding that the army men and police cordoned off the entire area and the injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

A search operation was also launched after the attack, which result in the arrest of a number of suspects who were taken to a nearby police station.
