PESHAWAR: The killing of Maulana Naseeb Khan Wazir sparked a massive protest by representatives and students from seminaries across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The demonstrations outside the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday were led by Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam (JUI-S) Chairman Maulana Samiul Haq, Senator Gul Naseeb Khan from JUI-Fazl, Maulvi Kifayatullah and Maulana Amanullah Khan among others.
The activists of JUI-F, JUI-S, Sipa-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), Pakistan Rah-i-Haq Party, Defence Council of Pakistan and students from Darul Uloom Haqqania, Akora Khattak, Peshawar, Mardan and Charsadda wore white turbans.
They were holding placards and protested against the government. They demonstrators said the PHC should take suo motu notice of the killing.
“What can we expect from a government that has failed to protect the lives of our religious scholars? In the past, we have witnessed the cold-blooded murders of Maulana Hassan Jan, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamozai, Maulana Noor Mohammad, Maulana Naseem Khan and now his son Maulana Naseeb Khan has been killed. How can a person be arrested by law enforcement agencies without a warrant or FIR registered against him and then be killed?” Maulana Rahatullah Darwaish from a local seminary questioned.
“All those who are responsible for maintaining law and order have failed to deliver. If the high court does not take exception to the matter, people will never forgive the judiciary,” Senator Gul Naseeb said.
Maulana Haq asked the government to shun the so-called US war on terrorism and said the murder was conspiracy against Islam and Pakistan.
Maulana Yousaf Shah also addressed the activists and demanded a prompt investigation into the matter.
“We are peaceful and want peace in our country. We believe in the judicial system and hope that it will rid the country of chaos and lawlessness,” Najeebullah, a student at Darul Uloom Haqqania told The Express Tribune.
On Thursday, Maulana Naseeb, a religious scholar and teacher of Darul Uloom Haqania, was found dead on Ring Road in Nowshera. A few days before his body was found, he had been kidnapped by unidentified people from Taru Jaba area of Nowshera district.
A statement issued by the seminary following his disappearance had alleged that secret agencies had picked up Maulana Naseeb when he was on his way to Kohat for a protest.
