KARACHI: This is with reference to Tooba Akhtar’s letter of May 7 “Sorry life of a KU student”. The writer has pointed out all the problems that make a KU student’s life difficult. However, I think the most serious concern is the irregularity with which classes are held. Despite the fact that the university has some of the best teachers in the country who are well-qualified, some of them lack the interest and professionalism to hold classes.
It has been noticed that classes are often cancelled without any solid reason. On various occasions teachers are found sitting in their air conditioned offices instead of taking classes. The concern is that due to political parties’ influence on campus, students already have to suffer through cancelled classes on a regular basis due to party clashes and strikes. On top of that, if these irresponsible teachers keep taking days off at their own convenience then how exactly are the students going to learn anything. Also, in order to cover up for the cancelled classes, teachers then hold extra classes, which creates great inconvenience for the students.
These few irresponsible teachers also spoil the reputation of the faculty and the university.
Therefore, I request the new vice-chancellor to look in to the matter and take serious action against such teachers.
