SUKKUR:

Sukkur Municipal Corporation (SMC) employees boycotted their duties and staged a demonstration outside SMC premises on Monday, to protest for against not being paid for the last two months.

Led by SMC union president Ali Mardan Shaikh, the protesters carried placards and shouted slogans against the administration. While talking to The Express Tribune, Shaikh accused municipal department officials of corruption. “When SMC administrator Tufail Ahmed Soomro took charge [this] January, the department’s bank account balance was Rs45.5 million.” However, the department does not seem to have enough funds to pay its employees now. Shaikh also criticised the government for reducing SMC’s share from the Octroi Zila Tax disbursements. He warned the municipal administration to disburse the employees’ salaries within the next 48 hours or face further strikes.
