Pakistan railways: ‘Deficit down, a little’

350 locomotives were needed to put the railways back on track, adding that only 150 locomotives were currently working

 “The deficit of the Railways Department has declined in the past couple of months through the efforts of the administration,” Pakistan Railways Chairman Arif Azeem said on Sunday.


He was talking to the media after the graduation ceremony of a training course at the Pakistan Inter Regional Railways Technical College. The event was held at the Railways Academy. As many as 18 officers from various countries including Pakistan, Cambodia, Korea, Guinea, Malawi, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Veitnam attended the course. The chairman, while addressing the ceremony, said that he hoped that the government would allocate a sufficient amount in the upcoming budget for the revival of railways.

He said as many as 350 locomotives were needed to put the railways back on track, adding that only 150 locomotives were currently working. Pakistan Railways, he said, will soon purchase 150 more locomotives.
