CNIC Typo: Man reluctant to seek gender column correction

Man's gender cited as female, father's name missing on CNIC.

A typo in data entry for computerised national identity card of a Sadiqabad man has resulted in his gender being mentioned on the CNIC as female.

Kashif Islam, a resident of Ahmedpur Lama, said he had visited the Sadiqabad office of the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) about a month ago for a correction but he does not plan to approach them again.

“I was told that they are busy with preparation of voters’ lists for general elections. They said I should wait until the lists are finalised,” he said.

He said he also feared that the NADRA officials would fix the typo in the gender section but make another mistake in his details.

He said it had taken over a month for him to get the CNIC. “I’m happy I have an ID card now. I don’t care about the gender column,” Islam said.

He said his father’s name was also missing on the CNIC he was given by the NADRA.

Talking to The Express Tribune, NADRA Sadiqabad office in charge Ahmed Jawad said such mistakes come up only rarely.

He said the heavy workload was responsible for it. “We deal with more than 2,000 people on an average day,” he said.

He said the card holder should approach the Sadiqabad office so that the correction could be made.
