LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to sue Dunya News anchor Mubashir Lucman over his programme on the provincial government’s laptop distribution scheme.

According to an official handout, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif have asked the Special Assistant on Education to Punjab chief minister Zaeem Qadri, to send a legal notice to Lucman.

The legal notice was sent for damages of Rs1 billion to Lucman for leveling allegations in a programme against the scheme without any proof.

Qadri said that Lucman had levelled baseless, unfounded and misleading allegations against the transparent procedure of the distribution programme, and did not bother to take the Punjab government’s point of view, which he said was against journalistic values.

PML-N owns the PCO SC justices. Their cases would be taken up on priority basis. However, the cases against Sharif and PML-N are rotting in the courts without any hearing.

Instead of sending him a notice they should take him to court in KP,not in punjab as the Punjab Govt cant manipulate the findings and decision in this province. Here in KP we don’t have Kangaroo court, though they are paid half of what the judiciary get in Punjab

Yellow/Agenda-based Journalism: Lucman deservers this. If we analyse his show in last 1-2 years, we’ll see that 80% of the shows were against N-League or Punjab government. Such legal notice would help in curbing yellow journalism.

The fact that someone has sent legal notice to media person, speaks of irresponsibility of media. Often we see unfounded news and analysis. This notice alone should make this program controversial.

If transparency international has given an OK to this laptops scheme, how can we not trust that? OK, If we don’t have to trust them, we should not either trust their report of 8500 billion corruption (IK keeps referring to that report)

I am worried that how the so called literate supporters of PTI can swoop so low i.e. fabricate stories that are complete lies against only one party which is lesser of all the so called evils. These are not good signs and this is defenitely deterring me and many from having any soft corner for PTI. We should wake up, choose the right tarrget without any compromise and be able to tell a difference between cooked lies and valid criticsm. I am sure that PTI who speaks of high morals and ideals would not want to win using such cheap tactics.Recommend

Sharif brother should sue Raymond Baker who has exposed their corruption with facts, figures and proofs in his book Capitalism Achilles Heel. The author also alleged them in corruption over their whole so called political life. Laptop scam was the only one issue, along with other several looting schemes. Even in that talk show, both Mr. Lucman and Mr. Nisar suggested mian bothers to sue Raymond Baker and they promised that they will finically support them. I think both journalists hit on sport.

Lucman did a shameful piece of journalism because:

    1) He said Punjab govt has not purchased original Dell but rather a ‘made in china’ dell, -fact is lucman, while you were living under a rock, China became the official manufacturing base, p.s. im writing this message on a Dell laptop(not from the scheme) and what do you know, it says “made in china”, heck even an iphone is made in china, they just have a better way of saying that.

    2) He said pirated windows are being installed in these laptops, fact is hafeez center is providing pirated windows to you, originally the laptops come with Ubuntu, a free-ware OS

    3) The price he quoted for a 15.6″ Dell, well buddy i dont know what currency you were talking in!

Its a good move, though i strongly oppose the laptop scheme. it is such a wastage of money and also shows how dumb the leaders are for not knowing the country’s/ punjab’s priorities. Also Shows how back ward minded these leaders are. Anyway pml-N got a chance to get some money out of mubashir lucman for at least some of his charges seem to be false. I guess the PML-N just got lucky..
