Solidarity: President felicitates Gilani

Terming it the first concrete achievement towards creation of South Punjab, the president said that, by taking this step, PPP has manifested its commitment towards the people of the region.

ISLAMABAD: 

President Asif Ali Zardari felicitated Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for the confidence reposed unto him by parliament on Thursday.

In his congratulatory message, the president said that the resolution was a clear manifestation of the premier’s leadership qualities and “his sincerity to those ideals for which Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto worked their entire lives.”

President Zardari also thanked the allied parties for their “unswerving support” to the prime minister.

Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said the president also congratulated the lawmakers for approving the resolution for creation of ‘South Punjab.’

Terming it the first concrete achievement towards creation of South Punjab, the president said that, by taking this step, PPP has manifested its commitment towards the people of the region.

PM calls Altaf Hussain

Meanwhile, the prime minister called Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain to congratulate him on South Punjab resolution.

Prime Minister Gilani also thanked Hussain for his support and backing the resolution.

The MQM chief congratulated the premier and said that the party would like to see implementation on the creation of the province and will continue to support the creation of the Hazara and other provinces, too.

    PM would have been a darling of the rightwing if he would have behaved like Gen Zia, Leghari, Qureshi or others like Mir Jafer and Mir Sadiq. PM can be anything but not a snitch or backstabber. He should be the PM as long as the elected NA shows confidence in him and the elected speaker of the elected NA and senate do not remove him via constitutional means. According to the constitution the SC is not the last decision maker but the speaker and lastly the president.
