Police were about to tear down the minarets, about five feet high, at the main gate too, but local Ahmedis convinced them to give them a day to cover them as demolishing them would have damaged the whole structure.
Policemen scratched out Quranic verses written on the walls of an Ahmedi place of worship and ordered them to cover up short minarets at the entrance as they made the place look like a mosque, The Express Tribune has learnt.
After receiving a complaint about the place of worship in Sultanpura, Kachhupura, a large contingent of Misri Shah police visited it on Wednesday and told the Ahmedis they had a day to make the place look less like a mosque, failing which a case would be registered against them under the ‘Anti-lslamic Activities of Qadiani Group, Lahori Group and Ahmadis (Prohibition and Punishment) Ordinance’ of 1984.
The policemen etched out the verses at the main gate and entrance to the main hall. They were about to tear down the minarets, about five feet high, at the main gate too, but local Ahmedis convinced them to give them a day to cover them as demolishing them would have damaged the whole structure.
An Ahmedi familiar with the matter said that for several days, “irrelevant people” had been instigating non-Ahmedis in the area to complain about the place of worship. He said that they had applied to the local police for the registration of an FIR. He said that the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) concerned had met both sides on Tuesday and they had reached a compromise whereby no case would be registered provided the verses and minarets were removed.
He said that the worship house had been open since 1960 in the same form.
He said there were around 35 Ahmedi families in the area and they had offered no resistance to the police action.
He said that the police arrived at the place on Wednesday, cordoned it off and removed the verses by scratching them off the walls. He said that they had told the police that they would cover up the minarets using tiles to hide their shape.
On Thursday, they told the police they would try to cover the minarets with iron sheeting. Investigation Officer Khalid said that they had pledged to do so overnight.
Misri Shah Station Houser Officer (SHO) Mudassarullah Khan told The Express Tribune that the matter had been resolved amicably. He said no FIR had been registered and there had been no protest by anyone. He said the verses had been removed with the consent of both parties.
The SHO identified the complainants as Rana Muhammad Tufail and Advocate M Badar Alim Sheikh. He said that they had sought a case under Sections 295-B and 298-C of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The complainants, who are residents of Ravi Road, about 15 kilometres from the place of worship, said that the building had the Kalma Tayyeba, names of Allah and prayer verses written at the entrance as well as minarets. “They are non-Muslims and should be tried under the law for depicting themselves as Muslims,” read the complaint.
According to 295-B, “whoever wilfully defiles, damages or desecrates a copy of the Holy Quran or of an extract therefrom or uses it in any derogatory manner or for any unlawful purpose shall be punishable with imprisonment for life.”
According to 298-C, “any person of the Qadiani Group or the Lahori Group (who call themselves ‘Ahmedis’ or by any other name), who directly or indirectly, poses as a Muslim, or calls, or refers to, his faith as Islam, or preaches or propagates his faith, or invites others to accept his faith, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations, or in any manner whatsoever outrages the religious feelings of Muslims shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine.”

The point is very simple “AHMADIS” have a different religion as they follow another man as a prophet. Then why they are trying to spread their religion using deception around the world and in Pakistan in the name of Islam. Why they call themselves as muslims when they do not follow ISLAM’s basic belief and follow another man as a prophet.
SIKHS believe baba guru nanak to be their religious leader/prophet and have a different religion. They do not claim themselves to be muslims and Muslims have no conflict with them. Sikhs acknowledge this fact that Pakistani Government take care of their worship places and provide them with excellent facilities during their pilgrimages to Pakistan.
AHMADIS should use their head and do an independent research of why they were declared non-muslims there must be a reason. Islam has two basic beliefs.Firstly, ALLAH is One and only ALLAH is worthy of being worshipped and secondly Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is the last prophet(nabi and rasul). I think the team of Express tribune should be sensible enough to realise the sensitivity of the issue and not try to present the facts in a twisted manner just to gain international media attention.

One thing should be clear to everyone that Ahmadys are not Muslims but they are non Muslims.It means that they are kuffar(plural of kafir,a classical term used for the people not beliving in Islam or Muhammad ismصلى الله عليه وسلم).
Saying Ahmady Sect as Muslim sect is simply ignorance of Islamic knowledge because they do not believe in the Last Prophet Muhammad(صلى الله عليه وسلم) as required in Holy Qur’an.
Most of the comments on this page look like written by Ahmadys to make the public opinion in the favour Ahmadyism or Qadiyanism or Ahmady Jamat.Even an ignorant Muslim can not favour the belief of Prophet after Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم .believing this will discharge and exclude him from Islam.
We, the Muslims do not believe in democracy which is against basic Concepts of Islam.
I condemn all comments and concepts posted on this page in the favour of Qadiyani or Ahmadyism.And their efforts to look like Muslims(their worship place,names or religious personalities) should be firmly demolished by Government of Pakistan.In case govt. do not show interest to do so it is then the obligation of Islamic Scholars and individual Muslims to stop their illegal and non Islamic activities by iron hand to save Islam, the beloved religion of ALLAH The Almighty.

I have an Ahmadi friend who says all the problems in Muslim countries are because they don’t accept Ahamadi faith. In fact they believe that all Muslim countries are in trouble because they don’t accept freedom of religion for Ahmadis. Its interesting how so many “educated” Islamists are supporting legal and constitutional religious apartheid of Pakistani state against Ahmadis akin to the Israeli apartheid against Palestinians and apartheid era South Africa’s apartheid towards blacks.
These Islamists by doing that accept that a religious state, by its very nature, is a fascist state which apartheids against and persecutes its people in the name of religion. This proves by Islamists’ own admission that a religious state is a curse and a bloat on the face of humanity and must be opposed by all.
These religious bigots have thus shot themselves in the foot by accepting and justifying this apartheid against Ahmadis. And yet these very same Islamists would next claim that an Islamic state is actually better than a secular state even though secular states require equal treatment of its citizens under the law unlike an Islamic state.

THE TERM MUSLIM IS NOT A LABEL BUT RATHER A QUALITY. Any one can be a muslim who strives to spread peace. At the same time, a KAAFIR is opposite to a muslim and means a MISCHIEF MAKER. In this example, the KAAFIRS are those who are against the Ahmadis.
The government has no right to decide who is a muslim or not.

Sadly, this is a true case of illiteracy and narrow mindedness. We Muslims are fighting to build a Mosque at ground Zero in New York City, and insist on building our place of worship (Mosque) in many places which have majority Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, and Jewish populations, but do not allow a small church or temple in Islamic societies such as Saudi Arabia. In fact we destroy places of others worship in Islamic societies. We have lost Islamic values due to Intolerance and illiteracy and that is good reason we are lagging behind all other communities of the world. We kill for blasphemy, destroy schools and colleges, destroy others places of worship, fight holy war (Jihad) against enemies of Islam, kill our own when we do not find another, and that appears to be a way of Islamization in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
We need to educate ourselves and develop moral values first. Once that is done, we would never destroy anyone’s place of worship for sure, no matter who that is. In fact, all developed and tolerant societies allow free practice of any religion period.

Remember one thing, Police is responsable to clean Quraan from any unIslamic building – and an Qadyani Buidling is a temple and not a Masjid or an Islamic place, therefore, it should have been removed.
However, this is not the solution. if you want to solve this whole Israeli and UK funded firqa, you should work for re-establishment of Khilafah, which can solve this problem inshaAllah for once and all.
They can live under khilafah, but they have to pay Jizya and also have to not call their temples Islam anymore and can’t call themselves Muslim because they are not. The followers of Mirza Kazzab can’t do any more Tabligh in this ummah, but because currently they are centered and funded in two places like UK and Tel-Aviv, and at the same time there is no Khilafah, therefore, they allowed to do whatever they want.
For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the Police has done something good.

I am a bit confused as I am not a very religious person. Most commentators claim that Ahmedi’s are not Muslims because they do not believe that Muhammad (PBUH) is the last prophet of God (which my Ahmedi friend tells me they do) and that Mirza Ahmed’s claim of being Messiah (prophet) is false. At the same time most Muslims believe that Messiah (prophet) will transcend again. This a bit confusing, what is the difference between the two claims. Let’s suppose Mirza’s claim is false, and the real Messiah comes again. Will he be a Muslim and not a Christian (even though he is the one Christianity rests upon)? Will he be allowed to use Islamic terms and to claim to be a Muslim. And, if so, what is the difference between real Messiah and Mirza’s claim of being Messiah? And even if Mirza’s claim is false, what is the fault of the Ahmedis who are following him in good faith? Even worst, how can we force someone that they don’t call themselves what they believe they are, however they wrong may be. Can anyone please tell me who is on the right path, Sunni, Wahabi, or Shia, or rest of the 72 Muslim sets? Who has the final authority to judge who is right or wrong. In the days of Caliphs, as they had the highest understanding of the faith, they could have taken the decision (even then I personally do not agree killing anyone on the basis of faith or lack of it – “Laa Ikraaha Fiddin”, perhaps Al-Quran), but can we compare the “Aalims” of today with them? Do we have proprietary rights on the looks of mosques as many speak of the law (even though no two mosques in the same area have same design, Sunni and Shia mosques have different characteristics, and different countries have very different styles from other countries) so that no one else can use them. As one reader suggested, they may be required to label it as “Ahmediya Mosque” should be sufficient.

Don’t tell us they are one and the same but with only minor differences. Had that been the case, there wouldn’t have killings and bomb explosions in the mosques of the other sects. Unfortunately my knowledge of religions is very limited and I am practicing even less, but I know that most scholars of the different sects do not even offer prayers in the “Imamat” of the other.
By the way, it is amazing how Muslims like yourself get offended, rather than feel proud, by calling someone himself as Muslim. Hardly any Christian would feel offended if a group of Muslims start pretending to be Christian. For once why don’t we properly research about the community, their belief, the truth and facts about that belief. The exalted rank, the undying respect and love for our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH) IS *SAME!*
The community should be allowed to clarify the wrong beliefs attached to its name. How do they do this when they are not even allowed to speak about their religion!

Likely Headlines a couple of year hence-
Islamabad- 5th May,2014. Police have arrested some non-Muslims on the charge of trying to look like Muslims. The Inspector said that these people had Two Legs, Two Hands, One Head and a Beard. It is obvious that these non-Muslims were trying to impersonate Muslims for nefarious purposes.

despite of all the disputes going on between the sects, they should at least respect the holy verses of the Holy Qur’an.Yes. It was the same “Code of life” which was supposed to be the “Code of state issues”.But they don’t know that they are blindly refusing their code of life. They are encouraging hatred for the thing, they show their utmost boundries of love.
Alas and much sorrow for this nation, which is blindly refusing the truth of its own cause of existence.

Well writing kalima or quranic verses on Qadiani place of worship is impermissible because it hurts muslims’ religious semtiments becoz the scholars and the state have declared Qadianis as non muslims so a non muslim using muslim symbols in thier worship place is obviously something sinister.

@A2Z:
There is nothing in Martial Law Ordinance XX about the architecture allowed to Ahmadis

My head hangs with shame. The Police instead of prohibiting people from such acts indulging in defiling Quranic Verses and demolishing the dome or minaret of mosque? Did Mr. Jinnah in collaboration with Sir Zafaullah Khan Khan ( An Ahmadi) and Sir Agha Khan ( Imam of Seveners) struggled for this kind of Pakistan.

@Jehangir:
* a non muslim using muslim symbols in thier worship place is obviously something sinister.*
Who gave you the right to declare someone Muslim or non-Muslim? Do you have any examples from the life of the Prophet (SAW) where he stopped any one from reciting or exhibiting Kalima?
It is far more sinister to judge people and stop them from practicing religion. No wonder how screwed up the state of Islam in Pakistan is. Coming down to Muslims killing Muslims in suicide bombing!!!
Recommend
Jehangir@ where is prohibition for Ahmadis to write or recite kalimah Tayyiba, it is not property of state or any so called religious scholar. Ahmadis are Muslims according all the definitions taught from time to time, by the holy Prophet pbuh. The state as well as molvis have no authority to declare any one to be non muslim, Article 20 of the constitution is relevant in this regard which is reproduced below, Article 20.
1. Freedom to profess religion and to manage religious institutions.
Subject to law, public order and morality
(a) every citizen shall have the right to profess, practise and propagate his religion, and
(b) every religious denomination and every sect thereof shall have the right to establish, maintain
and manage its religious institutions.
Ordinance XX of 1984 was brain child of the worst usurper Ziaul Haq, for which he had no constitutional authority to promulgate. This dictator had sown poisonous seeds of hatred and bigotry and the country is heading towards anarchy and destruction, after Ahmadis Shia muslims are being persecuted with impunity.

I dont get this so does this law say that only muslims can right quranic verses on the walls of their holy building and then if they see it written somewhere else they can scrape it off. Just madness. The whole point of what the verses actually mean is forgotten. If I was muslim I would love to see the verses being given so much importance and being used to display the beauty of islam.
Pakistan is heading in a downward spiral and the so called educated are the ones who are leading it to that point. The right wing idiots will do what they have to but the educated pretend to be modern but all they believe is in the law of the jungle where the majority suppresses the minority till they either leave or accept the views of the majority even if it is completely senseless. Shame on the people who simply hide behind senseless laws such as the blasphemy law and laws agains ahmedis. Banana republic indeed.;

This is horrendous … Ahmadi’s are equal citizens and should have the right to live and practice their religion freely in their motherland. Whether we consider them representing green or white part of flag .. they are equal Pakistani. They should be allowed to design mosques the way they like. This article of constitution which restrict them calling themselves Muslims and
Even saying Salam, is highly un Islamic and against basic human rights.

If an Islamic verse is written on a church in the west, will it be blasphamy? I think the Muslims all over the world will be proud of this and will be telling every one that a verse has been found written on one of the churches in UK or USA.

@Kaalchakra:
“if these ‘Muslims’ used the garb of islam to spread a completely different religion to both Muslims and non-Muslims. … Suppose you were absolutely sure that Ahmadis were trying to do that, would you still welcome them as “Muslims’?”
I wonder why anyone would need to do that. Eventually they have to tell the new entrants what they really are. Do you think that the educated people, as they have the highest number of highly educated people in their community, cannot see what they really are and they have been defrauded. Who could stop them leaving and denouncing Ahmediyat.
A long time ago, about 20 years, I listened the Friday Sermon of Dr. Israr Ahmad in Masjid-Dar-Us-Salam, in the Lawrence Garden. By chance it was about Ahmediyat and the main points (which really surprised me) I can recall were:
A. They supported Quaid-e-Azam and the demand of Pakistan.
B. Ahmedis services by the likes of Sir Zafarullah Khan, the first Foreign Minister of Pakistan, for the Muslim world (Palestine and Kashmir) were significant.
C. Mirza sahib also did some service to Muslims by challenging and debating with the aggressive Christian Missionaries and the leaders of extremist Arya-Samaj Hindu movement and defeated them.
D. Mirza sahib’s claim of being Messiah and hence a prophet is false.
E. If Ahmedis disassociate themselves from Mirza sahib, they present Islam in a realistic way.
His sermon, I felt, was a combination of moral courage and contradiction that left me wondering for some time.

@fahad yousaf:
Dear Fahad,
I agree that their is nothing more than Law, and everyone should follow the Law. But I believe for Islam, the Law is made by the Almighty Allah and is taught by Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) – Peace of Allah be upon him. And it says “Everyone is Muslim who believe in Kalima Tayyaba”, so when any Ahmadi is believing in Kalima Tayyaba, and placing the respectful Kalima on the walls of their Mosues, than it means he has firm beleive on it. Therefore, no wordly law who is inferior than Law of Allah, should stop it.
