Singer and actor Jessica Simpson gave birth Tuesday to a bouncing baby girl, she announced on her website. Simpson, who recently appeared naked and heavily pregnant a la Demi Moore on the cover of Elle, said she was delighted to welcome Maxwell Drew Johnson, who weighed in at a healthy nine pounds 13-ounces, reports AFP. The father of her child is her fiance former NFL player Eric Johnson.

“Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson” , Simpson wrote. The baby girl measures 21.75 inches according to the 31-year-old singer, actor and reality star.“This has been the greatest experience of our lives.”

She got her middle name from Simpson’s maternal grandmother, Tina Simpson, whose maiden name is Drew. The child is the first, for both Simpson and the 32-year-old Johnson, a former football player. The couple began dating in 2010. Simpson checked into a Los Angeles hospital to give birth with her mother, Tina, and her sister, Ashlee, along with the parents of her fiance.

Friendly exes

Simpson’s ex-husband Nick Lachey sent Jessica Simpson a basket of cookies to celebrate the birth of her baby girl. “A large basket of pink and white cookies were delivered to Jessica’s hospital room at Cedars-Sinai earlier from Nick and Vanessa,” a source said. “The basket was delivered by Cookies By Design and included seven huge cookies with adorable baby girl decorations.”

Nick and Jessica were married for three years and divorced in 2005. They’ve since moved on with other partners; Nick is married to Vanessa, who’s expecting their first child later this year. There is still no official word on when Simpson and Johnson will get married.
