Wheat procurement: Farmers allege mismanagement

In Faisalabad, city district government set up 11 centres to distribute gunny bags and procure wheat in the district.

FAISALABAD/ BHONG: Dozens of farmers in Bhong staged a protest on Tuesday against alleged mismanagement in distribution of gunny bags. They accused revenue officials of issuing bags to middleman on counterfeit entries. They blocked Kashmoor Road by burning tyres. Police allegedly beat up the protesting farmers to disperse them. Wheat procurement kicked off in most cities of the province on Tuesday. In Faisalabad, the city district government set up 11 centres to distribute gunny bags and procure wheat in the district. A government spokesman said eight gunny bags per acre of land would be given to farmers. He said farmers depositing 50 gunny bags would be paid on the spot.
