LAHORE:

Some lawyers demonstrated on Monday against Prime Minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gilani.

On the call of the Lawyers’ Action Committee, dozens of lawyers gathered on The Mall outside the main gate of the Lahore High Court. They also raised slogans in favour of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. The protesters chanted against the PM, demanding his immediate resignation and asking that a reference be sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan against him.

They said that after the apex court’s verdict, Gilani stood convicted and he was no longer the constitutional PM. They pledged that they would protect the honour and dignity of judiciary much as they did during the lawyers’ movement.

They said the government was pushing the country towards anarchy by not enforcing the court’s orders.

They warned that if PPP and its government did not implement the SC’s order they would launch a countrywide protest. The lawyers dispersed after half an hour.
