LAHORE:

After setting up computer labs in schools and distributing laptops, the government is now providing the youth access to multinational companies, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.

Speaking at a function at the Arfa Software Technology Park, he said that agreements with these companies will help the youth in learning software programming.

“The government is launching an e-employment scheme with Microsoft for the students who received laptops,” he said. He announced that free Wi-Fi facilities will be provided to students at several educational institutions.

MoUs were signed with various companies to enhance cooperation in the IT sector. Microsoft has agreed to train students in internet-based self-employment methods. Cisco has agreed to set up the Cisco Network Academy. Huawei Company has agreed to develop information and communication technology infrastructure development and build training facilities. Oracle has agreed to provide students training at an Oracle technology and certification facility.

Teradata has agreed to establish a development centre employing 200 people. Transworld Company has agreed to provide a fibre optic link to Arfa Software Park. Wateen has agreed to provide free Wi-Fi internet facilities to educational institutions in the province.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly mentioned Huawei as Hawaway. The error has been rectified.

@Abdul Qayyum Bhatti: No matter whether it is PTI or PML, both are equally keen to see development in Pakistan but you have to admit that the CM of Punjab has done a great job of improving Lahore and Punjab in general. Compare growth and projects done by the provincial government in Punjab compared to anywhere else in Pakistan. We should give credit where it is due.- even if it is to Shahbaz Sharif who is a good administrator.
