Crime: Six men arrested in foiled robbery

Saddar police were informed about the robbery by an employee at the Naseerabad branch of HBL.

Six people were arrested by Saddar police on Monday while fleeing after a failed attempt to rob a bank in Naseerabad.


One of the suspects, shot by one of the security guards at the bank, was taken to Jatoi tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospital where doctors described his condition as critical. Medical superintendent Dr Zulfiqar said he had lost a lot of blood. He said the injured man would be referred to Muzaffargarh district headquarters (DHQ) hospital once he regained consciousness.

The other five men were locked up at Saddar police station. SHO Rehan Rasool said they had told the police that he had come from Khanewal to rob the bank.

Saddar police were informed about the robbery by an employee at the Naseerabad branch of Habib Bank Limited. The robbers had however fled before police arrived on facing stiff resistance from Guards Azeem Ahmed and Azhar Hussain.

Bank staff said they had cash worth Rs5 million at the time the robbers tried to break in.

Police caught them near Mudwaalay after a brief exchange of fire.
