ISLAMABAD: After the arguments were completed, the Supreme Court on Friday reserved its judgment in the elections reforms case, Express News reported. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, presiding the hearing, criticised the Election Commission (EC) due to the absence of the director-general EC during the hearing. “The EC is not fulfilling its duties of holding transparent elections,” said the chief justice. He added that the election commission’s primary duty was to compile electoral rolls, which was not done on time, delaying local elections as a result. According to the chief justice, when a candidate stands for elections, scrutiny is carried out to keep a check so that they do not cross limits set for electoral expenditure. He criticised the EC for its failure to make the scrutiny.
