LAHORE: Former senator, federal minister for information and central information secretary of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) Tariq Azeem announced joining Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday.

Azeem made the announcement alongside party chief Nawaz Sharif at a press conference in Lahore.

Sharif welcomed Azeem to PML-N and said that the party will take advantage of his experience and achievements.

Azeem said that he was thankful to Sharif for inviting him to join PML-N. He said that there was a ‘big burden’ on him and he was previously sitting in a place where if he spoke the truth, people would ask why he was speaking against government performance when his party was part of the coalition.

“I have joined the real Muslim League.”

The former senator also hit out at the government saying that Sharif was the only one who had visited Siachen after the tragedy, while the others had to follow him.

Azeem asked Sharif to visit Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan to help resolve issues there.

PML-N sources had earlier said that Azeem’s services for the Sharif family and for the party had impressed Nawaz Sharif, who had accepted the former PML-Q information secretary into the party.

    Guys, dont jump into debate which party he should have joined, PTI or PML N, but its pleasing to know that morally corrupt parties are losing their few good people. I hope all sincere leadership from PPP and PML Q will join PTI or PML N.

    “PML-N sources had earlier said that Azeem’s services for the Sharif family and for the party had impressed Nawaz Sharif”

    So this is the real reason of joining PML-N.

    I don’t know why PML-N Leadership earlier made hue and cry for not accepting Musharraf Cronies…………..now what they are doing?

    Another revolutionary “leader” joining the “angels’ league” called PML (N) ????

    Had he joined PTI, he would have been called “Musharraf’s remains” “Lota” etc.

    @Ismail Baig:
    What is the true worth of Tariq Azeem? Would he be able to win an election on his own? He was a senator. He does not have a constituency. So PML-Q didn’t lose anything, PML-N doesn’t stand gained anything.

    Mr. Azeem however might have negotiated a PML-N ticket for the upcoming election.Recommend

    Excellent point by Kaleem. The debate is useless between who is a lota and who is not, PTI has opportunists and so does PML-N. It’s the election year and parties would simply welcome anyone who is useful.

    @ Jibran: Not defending PML-N in anyway, but parties need more than just constituency-based politicians. The need people who can frame policies for them and most people don’t know, but Mr. Tariq Azim is a sober and mature politicians, he would be an asset in any party, be it PMLN or PTI.

    Why this newspaper is taking this issue as an important it defies any logic. Mr. Azeem has no sense of understanding of politics and therefore will not make much difference to the Nawaz League winning the elections – however this should spell the end of the illiterate and turn court Chaudries.
