LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday directed the federal and provincial law officers to file comments of Federal Interior Ministry and Punjab Home Department on Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed’s petition for security.
The petition filed by Saeed and his brother-in-law Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki sought protection for Saeed and his associates following the announcement of $10 million bounty on them by the United States.
The LHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, also directed the petitioners to approach the Punjab Home Department to seek security.
The US had recently announced a $10 million bounty on Saeed besides $3 million on his brother-in-law Makki.
The petitioners submitted that the US had announced a bounty on the instigation of India and stated that the US wanted to please India.
They added there was fear of them being handed over to the US by Pakistani authorities, and therefore, their lives and their families’ lives could be at risk.
They prayed to the court to order the federal and provincial interior ministers to not hand them over to any other country. It was also urged to direct the Punjab government to provide them adequate security.
Issuing notice to secretaries of Federal Interior Ministry, Punjab Home secretary and other respondents for April 25, 2012, Chief Justice Saeed directed the federal and provincial law officers to file their comments on the next date of hearing.

Hafiz Saeed never supported suicide bombing.
He criticized rather opposed TTP attacks on Pakistani security forces and common people.
Hafiz Saeed's only focus is KASHMIR. He never indulged inn fighting in Afghanistan or elsewhere in India.
Govt of India failed to implicate him in Mumbai Attack in the Court of Law in Pakistan.
LHC CJ should concentrate on relief for cases pending under his bench for last many years. But I think its MOST important case to save Pakistan and media projection for Sh sahib. For God sake dispose off long waiting cases otherwise Allah curse at judges who do not provide timely justice.

The people he indoctrinates into waging Jihad in Kashmir and Afghanistan, go and die there or at best languish in jails for all their lives, but he feels he is insecure in Pakistan.
THe longer he lives free, the more people of Pakistan he will indoctrinate, the more of them will die or kill others(mostly Pakistanis); the longer he stays free Pakistan's image will take a beating and the resulting isolation will induce more poverty. Now, he wants to use Pakistani's tax money to protect himself. Wah wah!
I don't fear Hafiz Saeed hurting India, but fear instability caused by him and his likes in my neighbourhood.
Mr. Hafiz Saeed is fearless when sending thousands of young Pakistani men to die in Jihad but fearful in praying to the court to secure his own life. Cowardice and hypocrisy are two sides of the same coin.

Hafiz Saeed should be reminded of the protection he may get from Punjab Police. He should watch the video of Raymond Davis in the custody of Punjab Police. When Raymond Davis asked for water, the police officers laughingly comment "No Money No Pani". No Dollar No Water. Would they go for the $10 million. It is not safe for Hafiz Saeed to travel by air, even within Pakistan as the pilot can take the aircraft to a neighboring country. I believe US has enough proof of his ties to OBL and terror activities, but needs his physical custody to nail him down in a proper court and cannot trust the Pakistan judicial system.
This proves Hafeez Saeed is a coward who can only brainwash young boys to go and kill innocent people. Now he is facing his own music. When the heat is on, he is now afraid for his own life like his buddy Osama bin Laden.
Is this the same guy who couple of weeks bragged about not being afraid of meeting with the US authorities to answer their questions?
Hafiz Saeed has been shaken by the US Fatwa. This has taken away his most important protective shield and he now stands exposed. His followers and supporters who had earlier perceived him to be a brave man shall no longer think so, and sooner or later someone shall come forward to claim the reward. A coward commands little respect, particularly in the inner circle of Jihadis. They may feel obligatory or bold enough to take him out. OBL's elimination was a turning point. It demonstrated to the terrorists that they can run but cannot hide. Had OBL been still alive, Hafiz Saeed would still be acting brave and not asked for protection from LHC.
ET makes these kind of headlines to demean PTI & the religious groups in Pakistan. The target specially is the Sunni groups which are potrayed as oppressive against minorities. This is a major conspiracy against PTI as well.

Perhaps it's lousy reporting in Pakistan but this "bounty" is for information that would lead to an arrest -- if so, how does one get protection from "information"?

Yes they are entitled to the same sort of freedom they advocate to all persons of a religion and sect and nationality different from their own, ie the freedom to be killed in target attacks, bomb blasts and other assorted violence. Im sure the govt will be happy to provide this for you. look how good its track record is
