KARACHI:

Chief Justice Musheer Alam of Sindh High Court ordered that notices be issued to federal and provincial governments, federal interior minister and provincial home minister besides Sindh police chief, SSP Aslam Khan and SHO Chakiwara, Aslam Gujjar. He was hearing a petition filed by two residents of Lyari, Irfan Memon and Abdul Jalil. They had sought a court intervention to save the lives and properties and order action against armed groups roaming in the disturbed locality.

The law and order situation has existed in Lyari for the last few years, said Memon and Jalil. They said that  the police was primarily responsible for their miseries as it failed in weeding out the drug pushers and anti-social elements from the area who over the years had transformed themselves into mafias.

“These mafias have the blessing of the powerful quarters and “one of the main characters of Lyari gang war is posted as security guard at the official residence of co-chairman PPP,” the petitioner stated in the plea and the point was also agitated during the initial hearing today.

The Chief Justice after a few minutes of hearing ordered high court office to issue pre-admission notice of the petition to all respondents for a date of hearing to be fixed later by the court. The respondents include the federal and provincial governments, federal interior minister and provincial home minister besides Sindh police chief, SSP Aslam Khan and SHO Chakiwara, Aslam Gujjar.
