DERA GHAZI KHAN: Amir Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Syed Munawar Hasan claims that the incumbent government would get an ‘extension’ of one year thanks to United States’ since it was in ‘favour’ of the government.

Addressing a rally in Dera Ghazi Khan on Tuesday, the fiery JI leader said that he had his doubts about future elections, “I do not see elections being held in the future, instead a one year extension would be provided to the current government as it not only ‘follows’ US orders but ‘obeys’ their commands,” referring to the parliament’s recent decision to let NATO supplies resume. He claimed that the entire parliament has proved to be just a “rubber stamp.”

He added that if elections were postponed or rigged, his party would revolt against the government and stir up a revolution in the country, adding that elections were a source of partial change towards complete Islamic revolution.

Hasan said that nobody could become ‘noble’ due to a lineage linked to saints, in a thinly veiled jibe at Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

“They assume that they have been forgiven because they are progeny of holy saints.”

Commenting on the law and order situation in the country, he said that lawlessness was abundant in Pakistan and appealed to the people to join and support JI in its struggle for an Islamic revolution in Pakistan.

“Absolute Islamic revolution in Pakistan can only be brought about by JI with complete implementation of Shariah.”

The amir added that it did not make a difference if one had a long beard, considered a symbol of faith in Islam, because now it was more about slavery to the US or not.

Hasan warned the government that the JI and the Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) would do what it can to stop the restoration of Nato supply and also would be the real resistance against the efforts to make secular image of the country.

Hasan said that the solution to the country’s crisis was by curtailing US’ intervention in the country’s affairs.

“We will organise a country wide protest on April 20 against US’ intervention and the reinstatement of NATO supplies.”

Further commenting on the war in Afghanistan, Hasan claimed that its people had defeated Britain, Russia in the past and now it had defeated America.

“Nobody can conquer the land of the Afghan Mujahideen, who are the holiest fighters in the world.”

Paying tribute to slain al Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden, he said that he was never a terrorist but a symbol of Islamic resistance against “Imperialism of the biggest satans” of the world. He added that US should not have killed bin Laden since it had resulted in creating millions of bin Ladens, people who believed in his ideology of jihad against the US.

We may to differ on the stance & ideology of Jamaat e Islami (JI). But we have to accept that JI is the only truly democratic party in Pakistan for which we have to commend it.

It is easy to criticize someone but to practice. instead of pointing fingers on them we should have to promote these leaders who actually are building the sounds higher and being wall against US.

@MZZ JI is a true democratic party? Supported Yahya in his genocide of Bengalis, Zia in his hanging ,flogging, media silencing dark ages, Musharraf and the MMA are recent history. These losers have one concept of democracy: elected members of parliament (which they themselves are not) should follow Maudoodi’s islam or they are US slaves. God save us from such democrats!

@F K: You said it like it is. How can a party be democratic while going against the full parliament? Those who believe and practice street power cannot be democrats.

    Thanks and regards,

A jamaat which is not even in Parliament is democratic? Why can’t people of Pakistan see this democratic trait in them and have instead chosen not to elect them?

@MZZ: “We may to differ on the stance & ideology of Jamaat e Islami (JI). But we have to accept that JI is the only truly democratic party in Pakistan”

I beg to differ. And I’m sure so do millions of other Pakistanis. JI is in no way a ‘democratic’ entity, its leaders are self-proclaimed religious scholars who have been involved in propagating sectarian violence all over the country. The huge division between Shias and Sunnis in our society can be attributed to parties like JI. I personally used to discriminate against Shias too (especially when I was in school) but then I came to the realization that the hatred breeded by people like Munawar Hasan in their rallies and addresses is not what Islam teaches. If the Qu’ran calls Jews and Christians “fellow people of the book” (see Al-Baqara, 256), then I’m sure Sunnis and Shias should be even more accepting of each other despite all the differences, because only Allah is all knowing. Coming back to your statement, parties such as JI have no democracy in them. And as Faraz already mentioned the supply lines were running smoothly when MMA was in power in KP and Balochistan, you can be rest assured of the hypocrisy of the Amir if he were to come in power. :) May Allah keep Pakistan safe from all external and internal threats.

Mr. Munawar Hasan is stating the obvious, no government in Pakistan functions or has functioned without the blessings of the USA. For Jamat e Islami to have some leverage in Politics they must evolve proper political Ideology with focus on addressing every day problems of poor people. He must not forget that during Musharaf era, a very good move to assign Agha Khan Education Foundation, set and conduct exams equivalent to UK’s O and A level was sabotaged by Jamat Islami. Jamat went to the extent threatening that if the Agha Khan Education Foundation went ahead with this program the Jammat will make a move to declare Ismaili Shia as non muslim.

Had that proposal been accepted and implemented the poor of Pakistan would have a future in securing proper education and better jobs. The proponents of sharia law have always defended the feudalism.Recommend
