GILGIT:

Cabinet members were briefed by the chiefs of law enforcement agencies on the prevailing law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) in a meeting held on Saturday.

Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah said that they would not allow anyone to challenge the writ of the government.

He said steps were being taken to arrest the culprits involved in recent acts of terrorism without any discrimination.

A spate of sectarian attacks in Gilgit had led to an escalation in violence which also engulfed other cities and towns, forcing the army to patrol the streets in the capital.

He directed law enforcement agencies to observe entry and exit points in Gilgit and continue an operation to de-weaponise the city.

The cabinet offered special prayers for the soldiers of sixth Northern Light Infantry regiment buried under an avalanche in Giyari sector, Siachen since April 7.
