ISLAMABAD: The seven-member bench of the Supreme Court hearing the contempt of court case against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has named newly appointed Attorney General Irfan Qadri as the prosecutor and has adjourned the hearing till April 16,Express News reported.
The judges of the seven-member bench after consulting amongst themselves decided that Qadri , not former attorney general Anwarul Haq would be the prosecutor for the case.
Aitzaz Ahsan, the prime minister’s advocate, spoke to the press after the hearing saying that he had also brought to the court's notice that one media group was falsely accusing him of being a liar when even the court had not decided that as yet.
He said that it was up to the court to decide if he was a liar or not and requested the owners of that group to make sure that such accusations are stopped.
Earlier, a new argument had begun between the judges and Aitzaz during the hearing when newly appointed Attorney General Irfan Qadir requested the court that he be given some time to review the case.
The court decided to solve this matter by choosing between the former AG and Qadir, but later declared the new AG as prosecutor.
Qadir was appointed as attorney general by the government on Thursday.
During Thursday’s hearing, Aitzaz had insisted on a fair trial for his client under Article 10 (a).
He argued that with the insertion of the article in the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the process of a fair trial is now a fundamental right of every person and added that Supreme Court’s rules are not superior to the Constitution.

@Imran Mohammad: can't get more bizarre than the 31st July judgement/ PCO judges, his lordship passed a judgement about himself...
The sc shd give out the decision now and not submit to the delaying tactics and cunning tricks of aitezaz. This is an open case, and every one knows that gilani has disobeyed the court and commited contempt.we are sick of these lies. Every one will stand by the cj. If needed, like we did in lawyers movement.
i must agree with liaquat hussain - meanwhile change of a.g need moretime wasted..
This is probably the most bizarre case in the history of jurisprudence. PM is the defender and he gets to appoint the prosecutor and choose the defense lawyer. How ridiculous can it get? I think SC should take one decisive stand and invoke 190 if needed. These shenanigans of so called democratic government has crossed all the red lines. PPP is trying to ruin every institution of this country in the name of democracy. Enough of 'revenge of so called democracy' !!!! For God sake.
Almighty Allah may ruin all those who are looting this country and sucking the blood of nation. Aameen
The governement is just using delayng tactics. There is no secret. They should be ashamed of setting these standards of values and honestly.
People are getting tired at the court's patience also. Take a decsion - your lordships.
Look Aitzaz is also complaining about media. However he fails to mention the media attention he was given during the restoration of judges. Even now some media houses are helping (with complete freedom) to put out his case during the peak hours on TV channels. He is in fact using every opportunity to highlight his side of the case.
