I could not have agreed more on how irrational Pakistan and India have been over the issue.
KARACHI: This is with reference to the editorial titled “Why the Siachen issue must be resolved” (April 10). I could not have agreed more on how irrational Pakistan and India have been over the issue. I do not understand why the two countries have not yet realised how worthless it is to fight over Siachen.
This piece of land has already devoured a distressingly great number of men from both the countries because of its godforsaken weather conditions, and not even in the course of battle.
From years of investing resources and obsessing over a sterile, murderous mass of ice, what have either Pakistan or India gained from Siachen?
More importantly, what potential good can come off trying to establishing supremacy over Siachen? If there is any benefit of occupying this area I would like to know what it is and if it is good enough to recompense for the casualties and the bereavement it has caused over the years.
