QUETTA:

The police on Tuesday is said to have ferreted out the remaining three Marri tribesmen listed as ‘missing’ after Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry warned of action against Balochistan’s police chief in case of failure.

Earlier, police had produced four missing persons before the Chief Justice during the hearing of the case about the deteriorating law and order and human rights situation in Balochistan.

During the hearing, the police had said that they will produce the remaining three before the court by April 12, 2012.

According to sources, the police claimed that they recovered the remaining three ‘missing’ persons namely, Gul Mir, Mir Jan and Amir Khan.

Earlier, the chief justice had directed Inspector General (IG) of Balochistan police and other police officers concerned to recover the seven ‘missing’ persons who were picked up from Quetta’s Saryab area on March 1, 2012.

The IG and other officials were warned that failure to recover the seven missing Marri tribesmen would lead to suspension.

However, there was no confirmation by any senior police official about recovery of the remaining three missing persons.

“Police informed us that three more of our missing relatives were recovered and we were asked to reach Civil Lines police station,” relatives of the missing persons told the media. “We are waiting here,” the relatives told reporters.

It is pertinent to mention here that relatives of the seven missing persons recorded their statement before the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Chaudhry.

Four people including Hazar Khan, Mazar Khan, Malik Sher and Javed were earlier produced before the Quetta registry of the Supreme Court.

The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VFBMP) thanked Chief Justice Chaudhry for ensuring the safe recovery of ‘missing’ persons. “We appreciate the Supreme Court’s efforts and expect that the Chief Justice will order for the recovery of hundreds of other missing persons.”

The VFBMP, an organisation striving for safe recovery of missing persons, requested the Chief Justice to hold regular monthly hearings in Quetta so that relatives of missing persons, who are living in interior of Balochistan, can travel to Quetta and record their statements exposing the lies of officialdom.
