ABBOTTABAD/ KARACHI: Criticising the nepotism in the selection of Bilawal Bhutto as party chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said that Bilawal has no knowledge of the difficulties faced by Pakistan and cannot even speak Urdu properly.
Speaking at a rally in Abbottabad on Sunday, Imran categorically differentiated PTI from other mainstream political parties, saying heads of parties like the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are family members.
“In PPP, Zardari brought forward a piece of paper [will] and claimed that his late wife Benazir Bhutto chose him as her successor. Hence he became the party leader,” Imran criticised.
Shifting his criticism to PML-N, Imran said that to become a party leader in Nawaz-league, one has to have “Sharif” as its surname.
Coming back to PTI’s recently introduced method of electing party leaders, Imran said PTI will give opportunity to its members to choose their own leaders, who will then represent them once in power.
“This will give a chance to young people to become leaders,” Imran said.
He added that PTI members can also elect leaders to the highest party position, the one currently held by himself.

The little Bhutto talks more sense than Imran Khan. Much more practical than inconsistent Imran Khan.
@Mj Check your facts, Mr. Jinnah has given many speeches in Urdu.
Imran should concentrate on NOT associating with radical extremists and not talk about personalitys
Jinnah made Pakistan. Bhutto made Bangladesh.
Kaptaan saab is not making a lot of sense these days. Not that he was ever the sharpest tool in the shed.
Our Quaid the great and Mohtarma Shaheed even lacked to speak Urdu. Actually Imran Khan knows that today's youngsters do not go through the history books so it's easy to trap them.
@Bombay dude: What are you talking about ? In Pakistan if you can speak proper Hindi or Urdu, it means your ancestors came from India. The original people of Pakistan have all learned to speak Urdu or Hindi. All Bilawal needs to do is watch a few Indian movies to learn to speak. Do you not know that the founder of Pakistan Jinnah did not speak Urdu? If you ask me, I couldn't care less whether Bilawal can or cannot speak Urdu. I am disappointed in Imran Khan who is the last person to say this. Can Imran Khan speak proper Pashtu or Seraiki or Punjabi when Urdu or Hindi is not is not his language?
i love the picture together, a 23 or 24 years old Bilawal is now a direct competition for a 62(i am not sure of the ages) year old! I LOVE THIS!
By rule of "Hafiz saeed's fan" if he cannot speak urdu he must be INDIAN. Careful Bilawal, these mullahs can make you anything for pushing their agenda.
@Umar...
was IK the chairman of a party? at 23 he was doing what he was best at... we have no problem with bilawal if he returns to oxford and do what he is best at doing :)
@Ali... you can ask this ques after the elections in PTI...2months away... untill then just check the confusion and paranoia of PML(Laptop) and PPP... :)
@Umber: are they becoming chairman of PTI?
@sami akmal:
What does that say about PPP? 23 year old who doesnt understand the country or speak the language is the best your party has to become chairman?
Then why gave all the major seat of his party to ex ppp and PML N leaders without election ! this man is also like our other politicians ! this man
Was Imran Khan perfect when he was in his 20s?
who cares, if bilawal does not know urdu properly. we are interested that Imran Khan (you) serve Pakistan.
@socialist... bilawal joins pti then he will be just another member and not the one who would order IK what to do and what not to do...
@Saher... so you checked wikipedia..i wish you would also go through the 20min speech of IK and you will come to know there was nothing personal...and anyways it was the little kid who started it by telling Imran Khan of Lahore... he did well to contain bhutto to larkhana and this time the people of pakistan should understand that bhuttos are only for larkana...for the rest of pakistan the only hope is imran khan...
Very cheap and mean. This only shows IK is fast catching up with other politicians in taking street level potshots at each other.
IK, please be serious.
Lets assume bilawal has joined pti then imran will say he is foreign qualified and there are no corruption charges against him!
As far as i rememeber, bilawal and bakhtawar used to study at froebels and OPF, respectively before it wasnt possible that they continue their education in Pakistan.
wikipedia tells: Bilawal was admitted in the prestigious Aitichison College Lahore, but due to some security problems he could not continue. Instead he went to Karachi Grammar School during his mother’s second term in office as Prime Minister. He also attended Froebel's International School in Islamabad.
though i disagree with dynastic politics, getting personal on such levels isn't mature.
@ET...
http://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2012/04/09/news/national/pakistanis-facing-worst-hardships-today-says-imran-khan/
this is the coverage of the same event that you did with your tabloid headlines... can you learn something called a balanced coverage please?
@Pakistan politics: IK alreay stated that ,the day he got in POWER,he will announce serperation of Pakistan from this WAR on Terror. So nothing left over this to discuss the utilities of it including Nato Supply ,Camps and all.
And i feel sorry for the people who are comparing Bilawal with Imrans Son's ...Bilawal is PM in waiting head of PPP and IK's focus was not on language it was on his understanding of the problems people facing...
Of all the things you can criticize about Bilawal, Imran Khan says "he cannot even speak Urdu properly?" Really? Can Imran Khan speak Seraiki? If not, then how will he alleviate the problems of the Seraiki people? Stupid comment by Imran Khan. He should focus on setting his own party in order first.
@Pakistani Politics... you say you are not associated with any political party and just observer? i dont know what kind of observation do you do... as you still want IK to sms you his stance on NATO supplies? can you paste your mob number here? IK will contact you personally on every issue ok? because except the paid commenters of PML(Laptop) and PPP, the rest of pakistan knows very well about the stance of PTI on the NATO supplies... or you can ask @ch.allah dad or @mirza who will tell you privately that they would also be voting for PTI..its just their jobs that they have to comment anti-IK on the web because they get paid per-comment.. :)
Please have some respect for Our Quaid, and refrain from using Mr. Jinnah and today's politicitians (or Benazir) in one sentence.
Learning/speaking any language or not fluently is not the issue but the issue is how much more any one is sincere and honest with Pakistan and -Pakistan's nation and prosperity economically??????Discussing on such these types of useless issues is only wastage of time.
As long as he speaks sindhi baluchi or mekrani he is fine with me. It really doesn't matter what they speak but choosing leaders by birth is folly we shouldn't tolerate. Bilawal may turn out to good politician and he should take over form his father now...otherwise they will be no ppp in a few years but zardari tola of corruption. Sooner we rid of them the better.
Good old Imran Khan, picking on little kids!
@Freeman: Thanks for your advice. I shall do that. It's too late now, but I promise I will see it tomorrow.
@Mwaqar: please don't resort to character assassination. The past is past! Whether he is capable of helping the people or not is to be seen. It takes courage to run a hospital. Atleast give him his due!
@Dr Priyanka: Urdu is not the natural language of Pakistanis- Urdu is like Hindi mostly and it is the link language used by different peoples to communicate in Pakistan. Most native Pakistanis have their own language as well. If they are educated, they will also speak in English. Speaking in Urdu is not what defines a leader. The best leader Pakistan had was Jinnah and he hardly knew any Urdu but preferred to speak English. Pakistan would be better off if we all spoke English anyway.
@Freeman: my point is abou all the leaders who profess empathy for the common man and raise their kids exclusively in the west. Yes, exclusively. This is not about going abroad for some studies. This is about being raised abroad. As I said elsewhere IK doesnt have a taj to bequeath yet so this is not yet about dynasty but about commitment.
Let the people of Pakistan decide who they want heir leader to be, We must respect the people's mandate whosoever gets it.I feel Bilawal has got a potential to lead this country>
guys, In Soho, no one understands Urdu and English is the Language !
@Arsalan: Don't, please don't use Jinnah and Benazir in same sentence.
@Dr Priyanka: Why don't you wantch first full video of his speech. ET delibrately took one line from 20 minutes address of Imran Khan and people who never watch that address are getting confused.
Before you comment you need to check whole video.
@Thoughtful: His childrens are not adult living with their mother. Also they are not going to be PTI leaders pr politicians so your comments does not relate to Pakistani politics. So there is no questions about them. Bilwal (bhutto name was frudulently added in his name to make people of Pakistan fool with bhutto name) Zardari. Bilawal wants to be a leader of Pakistan and can't speak urdu its a shame.
@Very 1: Imran Khan is not going to buycott this time. No need to worry as we will not give anymore walkovers to these Status quo family parties.
@Umber: @Thoughtful: @sami akmal:
Imran Khan's sons will not be a leaders of the PTI so you do not need to comment on them. Imran Khan will never make them leader. This is because PTI is not family party or family property like ther 2 parties PML(N) and PPP ARE.
Imran Khan is talking about King makers party who are trying to make another family members a leader who can't even speak urdu and do not even have clue aboout the problems of pkaistani ordinary people.
Its does not matter if an ordinary Person can not speak Urdu but Leader must be able to Speak urdu.
@blaaah: Are you discribing yourself as narrow minded person.
@Khan: Talking about "sense" I don't see much point in your point. Tell us the name of one national leader in recent history who could not speak their national language. Even Sonia Gandhi (an Italian) speaks Hindi. Let's compare the most likely communicator in chief of our nation with the average Pakistani on the street. Where IK is right, he's right. His objection is valid and justified. Will it matter on the election day is anybody's guess.
we are ourselves guilty to promote nepotism in paksitan. why we (electorals) vote these favourites?
Like your children can, Imran? Benazir Bhutto could not speak Urdu either but she learned it.
Neither could Quaid-e-Azam and Jemima Khan
@kashaf: That does not mean you should be criticized. That is the reason bangali left Pakistan.
Yes,we,all started to use English as an universal, international language.
Most young Germans are mixing English with German words.
The funniest bakery sign,which I saw read."Back-factory".
The language is not important, but WHAT you say!
@geeko: Bhutto did not choose Benazir we ppl of Pakistan chose her, though lots of money paid to defeat her, Like his Father she proved herself a great leader, now after her we have chosen her son to lead. Sixty year old Ik is afraid of 23 yrs old boy. I dont know urdu, being a Sindhi that doesn't mean, I dont have right to contest election . IK is talking same language that made east Pakistan to decide for their own homeland where on the basis of language ppl judged the patriotism of a nation. You call nasty politics I call it intelligent one he whipped all establishment, judiciary and nasty opposition along with media. Now his party successfully, will complete its term. Where Lahore fails they talk of ethnicity of other provinces. Please mind it PPP has majority in national assembly and represent all provinces except Lahore.
Bilawal can't speak Urdu properly? Neither could Quid-e-Azam. So what's the big deal?
I wonder what Imran thinks about the Taliban who destroy girl's schools almost everyday in the tribal areas of Pakistan,I never heard Imran Khan saying anything about Taliban activities and their terrorism and destruction in Pakistan or tribal areas. Pakistan needs stability, economic vibrancy, poverty alleviation, more education. Its really amazing to observe political developments and politicians in Pakistan, it seems like Pakistani politicians does not have any agenda for the welfare of their voters. I don’t see anyone talking and discussing how to solve crisis like loadshedding, clean water to all citizens, health benefits for people, education etc.. Pakistan can never be a true democratic nation, unless the illiteracy is reduced, the judiciary is clean, bureaucracy is defeated and every Pakistani from cities, rural areas develops the political acumen. The truth is Pakistanis never seen a true democracy. Pakistan was taken over by the subservient, pro-colonial masters’ elite from day one. They allowed themselves to do anything for the colonial powers in their insatiable greed for power and profits. August 14, 1947 was a transition from direct colonial rule to de facto colonization. By the age of 65 a COUNTRY - like a man - should have achieved a certain maturity. After decades of existence we know, for good and for bad, who we are, what we have done and how we appear to others, warts and all. But unfortunately, Pakistan remains curiously immature,a Country with less then 50% rate of literacy can’t bring political wisdom that usually accompanies age. But today the country's national narrative of macho victimhood appears to the rest of the world as simply bizarre.
Hmm.. its true that Bilawal cannot speak Urdu properly.
But so do Quaid Jinnah.
:( :(
Okay I really hope IK comes to power, even though I dont believe in him; because I cant stand the idea of Zardari being re-elected and bringing some foreign person by the name of Bilawal into national politics too. As for the statement, its a fact that PPP and PML are not political parties; they're family dynasties. And dynasties are succeeded by heirs only. So thats Zardari's rationale. The problem lies with us citizens too; who vote for these dynasties in the urban areas too.
I thought he would talk about NATO supplies resumption, but i know he can not afford to offend Uncle sam. Why he is silent?
http://707monty.blogspot.com/2012/04/imran-khans-suspicious-silence-over.html
We are still waiting for the leader who can solve the poor people problems in Pakistan , Pakistan elite has been fail in this since independence.
@Maryam: Pot calling the kettle black,Imran is just another failed street politician,he has forgotten his playboy days and other shameful acts towards female journalists who interviewed him.
Let your children grow and then we will ask the same question!
@Naveed: Benazir proved herself a great leader, when her father died she was even younger then Bilawal, she held the party command so wisely and successfully, ppl associate her name with party along with the founder, Khar, Jatoi and Perzado, and Mumtaz bhutto old and experienced their parties, could not live more than few years. Bhuttos are blessed, if IK think he is great then he should not be jealous, he prove himself.
Hazara division will ideologically always be Muslim League area.
How can the honorable people of Hazara vote for pti when its leader was actively supporting for name change for the Province ( at least PML N got the name amended by adjusted bu adding Khyber and fought tooth and nail till the last moment).
I wonder how much time Bilawal has spent in Pakistan, He is an outsider, who cant even speak local language. Is he really a Party Chairman?
@Adeel: Enthusiasm of music at jalssa
Imran is Imran because he has good English accent, Oxford graduate, good looking and occasionally spoke Urdu. Minus these qualities from him, he will stand in league with Javed Miandad, Inzi and Abdul Qadir.
Language should not be a barrier nor a criteria specially when public interest is involved. However selection of candidates in political set up should be rejected outright by the party workers. They should follow the democratic procedure and conduct party election periodically. Will the existing political parties will follow the democratic route is any body's guess. The odds are against. Why should family loose it's grips on the party when the party workers don't care. This is one of the reasons why the country is in mess. The party workers must wake up and excersize their right.
Imran Khan is chairman PTI since last 16 Years & will be chairman till his death. He married a British woman instead of a Pakistani Woman. His own children are in UK. At least he cannot say these words for Bilawal.
Imran Khan is Right,Bilawal Cant even Speak Urdu and he went to india with his Father why?Does he hold any Government Post that Makes him Eligible of going to another country for Peaceful Relationship between indian and Pak(Though it was showed as a Personal Visit)I thank Imran Khan for Trying to remove this Ancestral Politics in Pakistan Only IMRAN KHAN can Bring Change Vote for PTI
But Even Jinnah could not speak Urdu Properly. Look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrapni4nyV4
@Icydevil: If Bilawal is elite then who is Imran Khan???? Imran is choice of king makers who always, choose, turncoats and die hards of army dictators, now part of PTI, But PPP is choice of ppl of Pakistan, that's why always represent all over the Pakistan, since last thirty years.
@Mj: Exactly - the Quaid could hardly speak Urdu / Hindi and what difference does that make anyway? He was more eudacted than anyone of his generation. Most educated people in Pakistan prefer to speak in English unless they are obsessed with Bollywood movies!
Oh dear God !! ET did it again. and the impact is clearly visible in the comment sections. i bet most of these anti-IK didn't even watch/hear his speech at abbottabad.. When IK said this, he was talking about the politiical parties and their way of running the affairs. he was actually addressing the youngsters out there and telling them that YOU CAN AND WILL BECOME LEADERS IN PTI unlike in PPP where they nominate chairman for life (via a piece of paper called will) and a 17-year old kid who is not in pakistan almost never and can't speak the NATIONAL LANGUAGE URDU.. he didn't make any fuss over it ET grow up ...
IK was referring to the way things r run in other parties. so wake up ET and don't report in negative way.. you r also not helping the unity cause. you are infact derailing it by such reports. as some one mentioned , out of that around 30 minutes speech all ET came up was this one line? isn't it pathetic to say the least ET? he talked about provinces, unity, corruption, way forward, elections within the party, giving youth a chance and ET came up with this headline?? shame indeed
Imran Khan's kids are the students of advanced Urdu literature compared to Bilawal. I am glad that IK is stooping to the level of kids. He could not compete with BB so he is picking on the kids. This only shows the character and desperation.
@Umber:
Imran's whole idea is that Bilawal, thinks, he would continue fooling Pakistanis, like his Dad, who used a fictitious paper, to claim that he is to be appointed the head of PPP. The whole thing conveys the idea that the PPP, is a party of a feudalistic mindset, who consider others, as their inferiors. This is exactly what ZAB, did when he master minded the break up of Pakistan, in 1971, simply because he refused to accept the reality of his defeat in the 1970 elections. The Hamood ur Rahman, commission report, provides specific details, about the devious role of ZAB, and how he cleverly used a half sober, Yahya Khan, to deceive the Pakistan army, in 1971. More unbiased opinions are expressed by a book, by Sharmeela Bose, a Bengali hindu, and an Indian national, who puts the blame on the Indian trained mukti bayani, and a secret deal between Mujib, Indira, and ZAB. How ever Allah Subhana, the one and only one, sent all of them to meet a humiliating end, and history is witness to this fact. Allah u alam, and Allah Subhana alone knows best.
IK You need to act much more maturely instead of taking cheap shots at your rivals! You are no ZAB & that era of 60s, 70 is gone. You think too much of yourself & please do not think of yourself as a Messihah of this nation. Although not a fan of AAZ or NS but frankly I think they are much better than you since they are not hypocrats like you.
i'll be more worried if he doesn't know sindhi@usman:
@Mj: Really??? you're putting him in the same boat as Jinnah??? really??? i salute your guts... i really do
Would it be better if Bilawal could speak Urdu and supported extremists like Imran Khan does?
Imran Khan, I support you and I believe in your vision. But please don't even mention Bilawal in your speeches, TV appearances. He is nothing just leave it at that.
Imran should worry about terrorists attacks, low rate of literacy in Pakistan,no clean drinking water ,no safety of minorities in Pakistan and hundred of other problems Pakistanis face everyday.
Neither could the Quaid or Benazir Bhutto and millions of Bengalis who were made fun for the same on a daily basis.
But what else can you expect from a person who is yet to miss out on even a single annual cruise vacations he takes with European elites.
@Copper -guess we'll have to wait and see who Imran gifts the party to or continues with his autocratic rule.
Pakistan first, NOT family first when it comes to rule the country. If there is no country then there is no family. These people who live abroad and come back to country only to rule and loot can never be loyal to it.
Were President Hashmi and Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood appointed or elected?
These people stay out of country, live, nourish, spend their lives there. Then they come to PK as looters, get as much out as they could and then return back to their other 'home' country. IK is against blood hierarchy in political parties. He is right. Country must not run by a family (bhutto/sharif).
@Mj:
Quaid-e-Azam's mother tongue was Gujarati, and he could speak it well. Bilawal on the other hand isn't fluent in any of Pakistan's local languages, including his mother tongue Sindhi.
It's true speaking a language is not a pre-requisite for being a leader, but it is good to have and helps communicate your message. And IK did not only mention his not knowing Urdu, but it was along with the fact that he's lived abroad all his life and has no connect with the problems of Pakistan and Pakistanis. Add to that the fact that he has no struggle behind him and he'll be made the decider of all affairs of Pakistan is a frightening thought indeed.
The key factor of the speech was the NEPOTISM in his selection and lack of all democratic values (which PPP supposedly stands for) which many of our dear commentators above missed. As for those saying IK should criticize less, he did criticize very less and spent a big part of his speech in giving his program about local government system and empowerment of the people including more provinces...and of the need to eliminate corruption...
the fact that this news piece has generated more comments then that on the troops stuck in siachen speaks a lot about us. Thought provoking this.
all the plitical parties are curpoted and we want to get rid from all of them they damages our countery.
for some reason or the other media today didnt give the pti rally its due coverage but i for one expected that they would atleast acknowledge the magnanimity of the numbers in which people turned out. Shame on the whole media for giving preference to that clown's private visit to India
Bilawal is not even .001% of what Quaid-e-Azam was!! What has this guy achieved in his life so far other than enjoying being a scion of a feudal-dominated political party who thrives on empty slogans. He has not even graduated from college.
Everyone who says that Quaid did not speak urdu, well Urdu wasn't made the official language until after the creation of Pakistan. And all the leaders back then DID had jalsas in Urdu so that they can make people understand their objectives. What good would Bilawal do if his speeches are not understood by the people of Pakistan who are mostly Urdu speaking?
reading the anti-IK comments above..i only feel that pakistan deserve leaders like zardari and sharifs to loot us... they just start commenting without context... IK didnt go to abbotabad just to say bilawal cannot speak urdu and came back... there was a speech which ET would never report... ET has become a tabloid instead of a national newspaper and so it has to stir controversery with quoting out of context... IK children are not the future monarchs of Pakistan so it is immaterial whether they speak urdu or what..and by the comment there is a clear bias...someone saying Jemima Goldsmith even though she writes her name as Jemima Khan..this shows the bias of PML(Laptop) and PPP jiyalas who thankfully are not educated to come and comment on internet... @Ch. allah dad... yes family and friends are the ones who benefits most from the corruption of the rulers and that is why they cannot leave your party... maryam sharif is your next CM so bravo....
Mr. Khan claims to be a Niazi from Mianwali. Does he speak the Mianwali dialect of the Seraiki language?
HAHAH AHAHAHHA forget the personal comments, he doesnt even know that Bilawal was chosen at BB's will, it was Zardari who appointed him! Her will didnt even mention bilawal!
I think Imran Khan has lost his cedibility with this cheap shot without being honest to himself and people that his own children in UK can not speak Urdu at all nevermind the proper Urdu. If you want to hear proper Urdu you have to go to Lucknow, Aligarh, Rampur etc, the birth place of Urdu. Fifteen minutes of fame may not be worth in the long run especially when you are trying to be a different breed of politician.
@Umber: Guess what Suleiman and Kasim are really not Pakistani leaders!. They are not appointed by their papa to head party. But Bilawal Zardari inherits it!
It is below the dignity of anyone to launch a personal attack. Whether Bilawal attacks Imran or Imran attacks Bilawal.
What he should have brough up is lack of democratic process to elect PPP leadership.
Sigh. We still need to mature as a nation.
Has anybody here attended a PTI jalsa? Is it true that everyone who attends the rally gets a free plastic chair? Is the chair any good?
Imran Khan, Get your facts right even the founder of this country could not speak Urdu. You represent yourself like a person who is filled with immense hatred for other & think yourself as a God gift to human man kind.
@shahbaz - just shows that he doesn't have much in his arsenal than to pick on someone on language. Next it will be the sindhi topi not fitting on bilawal's head. Don't get me wrong, I admire Imran and his acumen but this statement makes me doubt myself
@Naeem UK: You didnt understand what Imran Khan meant.
This proves only one thing. Imran sucks at communicating a very simple point effectively to the masses, and needs a translator from UK for clarification. In that case, Bilal turns out to better than him, as he presented his point of view very clearly.
Mr.Imran if you have a family then you will have to give them a chance...
Lol @ peoples invoking Jinnah... Imran Khan doesn't criticize Bilawal just because he can't speak Urdu, but because he can't speak Urdu and has never lived in Pakistan and has no idea of Pakistan's politics and is already made the future President of Pakistan and, finally, before even becoming the next Bhutto, Bilawal Zardari is already doing nasty politics and playing the ethnic (Sindh) card (Bhuttos of Larkana vs Khans/Sharifs of Lahore.)
The fact that his Urdu compete with Katrina Kaif's is secondary.
Imran khan should not give importance to these ordinary people like Bilawal, anyone mentioned by IK gets famous these days.
You've lost it Imran Khan. Talk of your achievements like the hospital etc. These kind of comments are not good. I've heard Pakistani punjabis speaking Urdu. They virtually killed the pronunciation. Having been brought up in Hyderabad Dakkhan and lived in Saudi Arabia for a while, I know what I am talking.
@anonymus: By that logic, Bengalis speak Bengali, does Bilawal speak Sindhi?
Is this criteria to be Pakistani? with that mentality u lost bengal does any one in Bengal speak urdu or for that matter understand urdu now?
@Umber:
You missed the whole point. Imran is emphatic about the idea, of doing away with family inherited parties. Thus whether or not his children, Qasim, and Sulaiman, can speak Urdu, or not is simply irrelevant. I would encourage them instead to learn Arabic, to better comprehend the Quran, and Sunnah.
A country of 180 millions has been driven thorough a will, is this a democratic norm?, people who called themselves democratic basically they are Hippocratic, what is so special in him that we give him leadership of Pakistan, is because he is son of Bhutto, Bhutto was great leader but is this not nonsense that we give command to someone because of heir ship, if it is then declare this country as a monarch.
it is shame for Pakistanis that out of 180 million they cant elect best candidate for premier ship, this is high time for all Pakistanis, you are living in worst conditions, it is because your choice is wrong, democracy is successful in all countries of the world but not in pakistan even in India, very shameful for Pakistanis, but plz dont bring shame on democracy., elect best person with your vote,
IK just curious - do Suleiman and Kassim speak Urdu fluently? If not, guess they can't be great leaders too!
No mention of IK's statement about new provinces which was the most important thing of the massive jalsa Its a shame ET picks up a line about an unimportant person as their caption
How can he say something like this for his own son? Also Imran should not say this as his own two kids are living in UK with Jemima Goldsmith. They probably dont even a know a word of Urdu. What a hypocrite Imran Khan is...
Kaptaan saab you are quick on the button. You realized that sooner than anyone did.
It was a well represented crowd from Hazara Division. It shows popularity of Imran Khan and PTI in all parts of the country. No other party including PPP represent all provinces and places.
You didnt understand what Imran Khan meant. Jinnah spoke national language of India at that time which was English. But Now our language is URDU. and Bilawal is not in British India anymore
Speaking Urdu should not be the criteria IK. Give me an honest French speaking leader any day over a corrupt national fluent in Urdu
@Mj: Read the article first, Jinnah's kid wasn't made the party chairman
Im of pakistani origin born in the uk. Ive lived all my life in the uk, i dont hold a pakistani passport, visited pakistan only once, yet i can speak urdu quite fluently. So whats bilawals excuse??
Imran is jealous that family members and close friends of his opponents help their elders in party affairs whereas his own family members, ex cricketers and friends do not trust him. No one knows a person more than a family member or co worker, their absence in PTI is a proof that Imran is not trustworthy.
What difference does not speaking Urdu make?
I don't like Bilawal or any other Pakistani politicians, but I think speaking Urdu doesn't make you a better Pakistani.
I bet Imran Khan's sons in England can't speak Urdu either.
English is also Pakistan's national language.
Only 7% of Pakistanis speak Urdu as a first language.
Jinnah would prepare his speeches in English because he could not speak Urdu at all. Was he a bad leader too? Something to ponder. Regards, Rehan
Imran Khan...well done! You stole my words on Bilawal! Thanks!
@Thoughtful: Yeah yeah the difference being that Imran Khan don't say that his two sons will be Pakistan's next monarchs.
It's pity --------There are still many people in Pakistan, who wants their leader to be born king...The shows the kind of mindset they have....I'm sure if Bilawal Zardari has an option, he would like to join PTI......
Many Pakhtuns, Baloch and sindhis cannot speak Urdu properly, so does it mean that they are less patriotic than those speaking urdu. When they dont have any other thing to make news out of it they start personal attacks. IK please speak sense.....
One thing Imran is lacking. He is not pressing people in its gatherinngs to come out for casting their votes on election day. He should adopt a habiit to always speak to youth and elders of the nation to cast their votes in the coming elections. He should tell the value of their votes repeatedly. No matter how long the queues are on that day, we have to be patient and must must cast our votes to the clean parties. Instead of celebrating that day as a holiday or playing cricket we have to come forward and urge our parents and elders to cast the ballot. This is the only way we can take revenge from corrupt politicians. No other way out yet.
we love u imran khan...
Says a man whose children are living the high life in the UK.
IK should see this as an opportunity. If he can't win the elections even against a "virtual Foreigner; half-Bhutto", what good is IK? That's the challenge Imran Bhai. You just gotta win! I'm afraid you might boycott at the last minute. But I'm hopeful you'll fight and win. But Bilawal should not be underestimated as he certainly is a force to reckon with, arguably the most powerful force, given his glorious dynasty.
In advance, for those who are going to comment about Imran Khan's sons.
They are not leading a political party which claims to be the biggest 'democratic force' in the country. They are not the one who Orders the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
And we, the Punjabis, mock similarly the Pakhtoon people for their Urdu. And that's shameful.
I really cannot understand the way ET reports Chairman Imran Khan's statements. I have heard him. He was just referring to the way in which political parties are running their affairs. And while deriding the whole status quo and the family parties, he just mentioned it to further his point that the current rulers have no interests in Pakistan. This was the whole point, and ET has blown it way out of proportion. Anyhow it was a massive Jalsa
Political orphan is orchestrating his downfall. IK's best bet could have been to stay positive, and rally the center leaning voters. Personal attacks like this make him no different than PML-N, and won't win him disgruntled PPP voters.
whats the problem with him . why u stoop so low., mr.khan. r u feeling insecure by a 23 year old party head. his party CEC has elected him as party chief by giving him a unanimous vote of confidence. plz. look into ur own party affairs and stop defending terrorist. infact,u have no clue abt anything. u dont deserve 2 b the next PM.
This is the best Imran Khan can come up with. Is this the most pressing issue? Sir! forget about others. Even if we assume that others are bad, you have to prove that you are better. With this kind of comment you weaken your case.
@Mj: For God's sake don't compare Bilawal with Jinnah. He must be turning in his grave over the havoc that Bilawal's father has wreaked on Pakistan
This is hilarious. Out of a speech of over 20 minutes, this one statement is what ET chooses to report out. Yellow journalism at its best!
What a great jalsa it was... shame on you media for not giving coverage at all....
VOTE FOR PTI....
IK , Don't copy Ch Nisar(PML N). Say something original.
Why has ET made a headline out of this???
At last, ET woke up from its deep slumber and this is what (headline) it has to come up with? Seriously, you can do better than this. Its not very difficult ... or is it?
It was a huge Jalsa and the enthusiasm of PTI jalsas cannot be matched by status quo parties.
true ...how can someone represent a nation if don't know the language, saw him stumbling in his speech. Bilawal's selection as chairman is not democratic.
It's not an issue if someone is unable to speak Urdu properly. Quaid-e-Azam and Benazir also couldn't speak Urdu well, but it is definitely an issue that unlike Quaid-e-Azam & Benazir, the throne of Pakistan is being given to Bilawal before he really understands Pakistan & its situation. Jinnah and BB became leaders only after they were mature enough and understood Pakistan's problems.
Spot on. this chap has not been through the mill so how can he share the happiness and sorrows of the 180 million Pakistanis. Feel pity for the Peoples Party.
Neither could Quaid-e-Azam.
lol, he shouldn't have said that! It portrays him as a narrow minded individual.
The nation would not become slave of political monarchies any more. The days of corrupt mafia are numbered.
IK zindabad.great jalsa
