Encroachments: DCO orders action on Ferozepur, Peco Roads

Tells officials to start road patchwork survey.

District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal visited Ferozepur Road and Peco Road on Saturday and directed city government officials to take action against encroachments causing traffic issues.


The DCO expressed displeasure at the encroachments and directed the town municipal officer and the town officer (revenue) to remove them and to take legal action against those who set them up.

Presiding over a meeting at the Town Hall on Saturday, Mengal directed all city government departments to ensure financial discipline and reduce non-development spending. He said that the development budget should be used in a timely and transparent manner so that development schemes were not delayed. He also directed officials to conduct a survey and patch up the roads that needed it most.

Meanwhile, city government inspectors and price control magistrates conducted various inspections over the last two days, said a press release. Acting on the directions of the DCO, price control magistrates checked 329 shops and challaned 71 shopkeepers for charging high prices. Two cases were registered and Rs54,400 in fines imposed. A total of 451 labour inspections were conducted in the last two days and action was taken against 22 defaulters.

Food inspectors collected samples from 160 hotels, marriage halls, bakers and other food venues and imposed fines of Rs39,000 for hygiene violations. Drug inspectors visited 12 medical stores and sealed two, while two cases were referred to the district quality control board. 146 tyre shops werechecked for dengue mosquito breeding sites, 77 tyres were removed, 34 destroyed and 305 covered properly.
