ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated the Christians on the eve of Easter and vowed to work for the promotion of human equality, religious tolerance and interfaith harmony.

“I felicitate the Christians of the world, both within Pakistan and abroad and wish them a blessed Easter,” the president said in a message on the occasion.

The president assured the minorities that the policy of equality, freedom and security for all minorities including Christians, as guaranteed in the Constitution and as promised by the Qauid-e-Azam and Quaid-e-Awam, will continue and that there will be no compromise on it.

The president also reiterated the pledge to safeguard the right of all minorities to freely profess and practice their religion.

The president also paid tributes to the Christians as “law-abiding and loyal citizens”. He said that the nation was proud of their great contributions to the advancement and development of the country.

The president said that Easter this year was the most auspicious, as for the first time in the country's history, four members of the minorities communities have been elected to the upper house on seats reserved for them.

“Let us on this day dedicate ourselves to interfaith harmony and to the progress and prosperity of all sections of the society,” he added in the message.
