KARACHI:

The schedule for the by-election to the PS-60 Diplo seat has yet to be announced, but the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (Likeminded) has nominated Arbab Naimatullah, a nephew of former Sindh chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

The seat fell vacant after Rahim was unseated by the Sindh Assembly for failing to attend sessions since 2008.

Rahim, the central president of the PML-Q (Likeminded), has been living in Dubai all this time. He had challenged his dismissal in court but his petition was thrown out.

“We will once again knock at the doors of the judiciary because the Sindh Assembly has made a partial decision to take revenge on Dr Rahim,” said former senator Ghaffar Qureshi of the party .

The new candidate, Arbab Naimatullah, served as provincial minister in the caretaker government before the general elections held in 2008. He is a son of Arbab Amir Hassan, a former MNA and the elder brother of Dr Rahim.

Officials with the provincial election commission said that updating electoral rolls was going on in the area and they would announce the by-election’s schedule soon.
