LAHORE: A day after the lukewarm welcome by the Punjab government, President Asif Ali Zardari said on Thursday that the “shine that the Sharif brothers have” was given by him and that he can “take it away any time.”
While openly criticising Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif at the Governor House in Lahore, he said that Lahore is Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) city and that the Sharif brothers are living as “migrants” there.
He also said that they did not have enough people to “even offer funeral prayers” of their father and had taken him to Data Darbar because of the number of people present at the shrine.
Earlier on Wednesday, when President Zardari arrived in Lahore no officials of the Punjab government arrived at the airport to greet him.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that it was a "lowly act" done by the president.
Speaking to Express News he said, "If Zardari terms the Sharif brothers as migrants, then he is surely unaware of the results of the past four elections."
"It seems like he [Zardari] has gone mad. He can foresee that he is going to face awful consequences, which is why he is making such statements.”
“I cannot even believe that such shameful remarks were given by the president.”
Reacting to President Zardari’s statement, Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif tweeted saying: “Guys do see Zardari's statements now on TV channels. Wish he had kept this side of him hidden !! (sic)”

A very bad show by the Punjab Government that no official was sent to receive him but even worse was Zardari remarks about Sharif's funeral.
It's fine with the media if Shahbaz Sharif expresses his intention to hang the President upside down but it's Blasphemy if he replies.
Cheap of him to have dragged the dead Sharif. Shameful.
Karachi is burning, Quetta is burning and Gilgit Baltistan is burning and the president is boasting about the 'light' he carries and loans, especially to his opponents. But he dimmed his 'light' by talking about few people at the funeral of senior Sharif. Even if that was the case, then what. Have some heart.

Don't have much love for Sharifs or Zardari, but a President standing on the highest political pulpit should avoid such irresponsible use of words.
The remarks weren't as shameful as much as the President of Pakistan's Reception in Lahore was. I'm not a PPP, MQM or PTI member but time and again PMLn has shown total "lack of protocol" and "sportsmen-ship" when the situation demand exactly that. No-mater how much a leader is "bad-named" (although, that's for court to decide) he never loose due respect of his position, at-least in the actions & behavior of fellow opponent/politicians. But Nawaz Party has shown their childhood attitude every time, not respecting their professional requirement and the situation.ET! If you keep slaughtering readers' posts which are not as derogatory as the news above you sure are depriving the audience of knowledge from openness and freedom of press. Thank you!

Both PPP and PML (N) (and to an extent PML Q also) are feudal parties with family control and these families have taken Pakistan as their private property. PTI (and MQM) are the only parties that are not controlled by families. Pakistanis should stop supporting parties that are hostage to a family. Thats not democratic politics, thats feudal politics. There should be democratic politics in Pakistan with parties like PTI and MQM.

Mr Zardari should not make such statement, and PML N has played a very sensible and mature role in last 04 years but unfortunately its PPP who could not perform...While people saying "Noora kashti" they must remember pml n went to courts in corruption cases and thy opposed many of Law which was not good for the people of Pakistan in assembly like sales tax, radio tax and so on...PTI don't have any agenda, its just blind thoughts, they only so far know how to criticize but they don't know how to play their role in the welfare of society.

Same thing PTI is doing. People have yet to see real action from PTI. When it comes to elections they boycott. When opposition parties ask them to join on national issues (NATO supply) they say we would start our own course of action. Only time will tell that how sincere PTI is.
