LAHORE:

The Inspector General (IG) of Police on Tuesday directed senior police officers to send their recommendation regarding the proposed change in police uniform by the next regional police officers conference. The date of the conference has not been decided yet.

The direction came while IG Muhammad Habibur Rehman was presiding over the RPO conference at the police headquarters.

The IG directed all RPOs, deputy police officers and sectional heads to furnish their recommendations on the implementation of the decision.

RPOs and DPOs from Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Multan attended the conference.

It was decided in the meeting that weekly off for the police employees will continue and senior officers will finalise the duty rosters.

The IG said this will help improve the overall performance of the police employees. It was also decided that the old name of the PHQ will be restored to central police office.

The IG also directed the police officials to dispose of all pending promotions cases. A proposal for the transfer of traffic wardens from one district to another was also reviewed in detail.

Field police officers briefed the IG on kidnap-for-ransom incidents. The IG was told that such cases in the Punjab had decreased by 99 per cent as compared to last year. The field officers told the IG that 50 proclaimed offenders had been arrested in March 2011. They said 1,972 criminals wanted for dacoity, robbery, murder, and vehicle theft had also been arrested in 2012 so far.The IG directed the RPOs to keep a close check on madrassas and activities of banned organisations. He informed the participants that a two-day refresher course will be conduted for DPOs on subjects including crime scene investigation and crisis management.
