On April 3, 1965, the ‘Sweetheart of Pakistan’ Nazia Hassan was born – a soon to be iconic figure of the Pakistani pop industry. If alive today, April 3, 2012 she would be celebrating her 47th birthday.
Nazia’s first hit was a pop song “Aap Jaisa Koi” which she sang for an Indian film titled Qurbani at the age of 15. She won a Filmfare award for this song and paved the way for her debut album, Disco Deewane.
The pop icon of the 70s soon became the striking beauty of the 80s and along with her brother produced audio and video hits, forever changing the Pakistani pop music industry.
Even during the conservative era of General Ziaul Haq, Nazia persevered, not faltering in her passion for music and became a celebrity. Among her biggest hits were “Ankhen Milane Wale” and “Dum Dum Dede”.
In 1995 she got married and had her son Arez in 1997.
Sadly, Nazia passed away in 2000 after losing a battle with cancer. She however remains a celebrity in the hearts of the 80s’ generation and lives on through her fans and all those who showered her with their love.

@Pinto: dear the day ur ppl give respect to legends like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan- and stop trying to defame him- I think WE as a nation will start respecting u!!!! As far as Ali Zafar is concerned- I never saw him giving any disrespect to the Indian nation or its ppl- on the contrary- Indians have capitalized heavily on his singing fame to bring up their movies which had very weak story lines!!!
U know bak in the 80s and 90s there were no huge barriers- and ppl were less cheating type- so great compositions were made- music really has no borders or politics!!!! Agree with u Ahmed Haseeb!!!!
Very sad to know that some people is calling hypocracy that she didn't sang Made in India, first of all they should know that Nazia left singing in 1992 and never did any song later except for one song for Unicef . She loved all of her fans whether they were in India or Pakistan. She did social work in both counteries so please dont try to give some political sense. About offending people in Pakistan she never give any kind of statement, this statement was issued by Biddu not by Nazia.

The Qurbani song was not sung for the film- she sang it and it was BOUGHT by the film makers!!!!! so there is nothing hypocritical!!!!

She was one of the biggest stars in Afghanistan in 80s, continuously coming close to matching Michael Jackson, Modern Talking and CC Catch's fame. RIP and thanks for enlivening our lives.
