Expensive education

Education is a universal right. It should not be made the domain of a privileged few.

KARACHI: In today’s Pakistan, a student’s life has become very difficult because of all the various expenses involved in acquiring education. Schools, colleges and universities charge such high fees that an average person is hard-pressed to meet these expenses. Many students have to bid farewell to education after the Intermediate level and start working to meet their expenses.

Universities charge anything between Rs 60,000 and Rs 120,000 for medical and engineering courses, while an average person’s monthly salary is about Rs20,000 to Rs30,000, which means that it is extremely difficult to finance the education of one’s child.

To make it possible for every student to acquire higher education, steps need to be taken to make it more affordable. Education is a universal right. It should not be made the domain of a privileged few.
