Press Release March 31, 2012

KARACHI: Cybernet and Augere Pakistan – known for its product Qubee – have formed an alliance to explore mutual business opportunities including the provision of redundant connectivity to clients and enabling 4G LTE services in the future.

“This cooperation between our companies will enable Cybernet – short for Cyber Internet Services – to strengthen its promise to deliver resilient connectivity to its enterprise clients. By accessing Augere’s robust and low latency network especially in many hard to reach and poorly served areas, Cybernet will be able to enhance the reach of its network and the diversity of its product portfolio,” said, Lakson Group Chairman Iqbal Ali Lakhani on signing of the Memorandum of Understanding. Lakson Group is the parent company of Cybernet and The Express Tribune among many other organisations.

David Venn, Group CEO of Augere added, “The alliance between Augere, whose brand Qubee is the fastest growing consumer broadband service in Pakistan, and Cybernet, a market leader in the enterprise data connectivity segment, is a win-win situation for both organisations. We look forward to working closely with Cybernet and leveraging our collective assets to the ultimate benefit of Pakistani internet users.”

The heads of both companies also discussed the potential for high bandwidth broadband in the country and the opportunities that can be created for consumers and content producers with the introduction of 4G LTE technologies. Both organisations currently operate networks in the 3.5 GHz band which can be upgraded to support 4G LTE in the future.

This is the best time to possibly lock-in the spectrum which window will be closed then and no inventory left. Yes if Ogier Holdings with Qubee consumer brand has opportunity today to lock-in for LTE-Advanced an upgraded version of LTE which is operates on similar parameters announced at ITU-R in January 2012. Think Huawei, ZTE has beta testing versions ready for first beta customer, as Pakistan was the first with Motorolla WiMax with Wateen. Without any additional costs, I think if LTE-Advanced operational would make our election very transparent, with archives with millions of individuals with the LTE-Advanced enabled terminals/phones. Pakistan election using the LTE-Advanced spectrum will be the pride of Huawei which is hurt from this week of Australian embargo on NBN. Huawei enjoys all privileges in Pakistan, and should continue with spirit which which it enjoys as carte Blanche.

@abdussamad. I disgaree. Cybernet exited consumer broadband in 2009 after realizing markets margins are not going to be there and Wimax is a dead technology to start so they did not deliberately invest on this technology or market and concentrated on enterprise market fully. I think their startegy was right one if you look at it today. Wimax is dead technology and LTE is the futur and so its good they waited. Look at Wateen and Witribe and Mobilink Infinity which started Wimax in Karachi and then stopped expanding. They all regret the decision and nobody is making profit... So i dont know who is the real loser here.
