LAHORE: The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) in cooperation with German International Cooperation (GIZ) has established Sustainable Production Centre to promote cleaner production technologies and energy efficiency among member mills.

Aptma Punjab Chapter Chairman Ahsan Bashir said this while addressing the closing ceremony of a four-day Energy Manager Training Programme for industry professionals involved in energy management.

The programme was organised by Aptma in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), GIZ and Training and Development Centre for Bavarian Employers’ Association.

Bashir said the textile industry had realised the importance of conserving energy and was taking initiatives in that regard, so the government should also take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted energy supply to the industry.

GIZ Component Manager Energy Efficiency Abbas Mahmood said the training programme was specifically designed to develop in-house capacity of the industry to plan and take energy efficiency improvement measures.

He pointed out that application of the energy management system was a sustainable way for continuous improvement in energy intensity in the industrial sector.

Smeda DGM Fayyaz A Riaz said demand-side management initiatives would help reduce supply and demand gap of energy in the country. He also highlighted Smeda’s plans to promote the energy management system as well as organise training programmes in different industrial sectors.
