Nawaz Sharif’s policies

Letter March 28, 2012
It has indeed been an interesting experience observing Mr Sharif’s political about-turns over the years.

ISLAMABAD: While visiting Sindh recently, Mian Nawaz Sharif, in complete defiance of the Charter of Democracy, welcomed Liaquat Jatoi’s entry into his party. In addition, while addressing a public gathering in the province, Mr Sharif claimed that most political parties in Sindh reportedly maintain target killing and money extortion wings. While giving this statement he did not bother to clarify whether his own party was also involved in these activities or not.

Another interesting statement that Mr Sharif made was regarding the economic conditions of the people of Sindh. He claimed that people in the province were better off prior to the present government coming into power four years ago. For a very long time, Mr Sharif has repeatedly blamed the Musharraf regime for every ill that has afflicted Pakistan for the past 12 years or so. Now, he has suddenly realised that it was better than the democratic government of Yousaf Raza Gilani. It has indeed been an interesting experience observing Mr Sharif’s political about-turns over the years.
