RAWALPINDI: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) recovered Rs33 million from defaulters during the last two months, the agency’s Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood said on Tuesday. Wasa has launched a grand operation against defaulters to recover water bills and has succeeded in making a record recovery in a short span of time, he told APP. Under the drive, he said cases are being constituted and referred to courts after issuance of challan tickets to those who have failed to pay three consecutive bills. Cases are also being framed against major defaulters for confiscation of their property under the Land Revenue Act. Following Punjab government’s directives, Wasa now issues water bills after every two months instead of three months, he said. According to the MD, Wasa Deputy Director Safdar Chaudhry is supervising the operation, under which special field teams visit different localities to recover arrears and disconnect defaulters’ water connections.
