LAHORE: The chief minister on Saturday laid the foundation stone of Aashiyana-i-Iqbal on Burki Road. The project is the third phase of the Punjab government’s Aashiyana Housing Scheme. Speaking on the occasion, Sharif said that the reason why “the common man” was suffering was because only the country’s elite had benefited from national resources in the past 64 years. He said his government had introduced the Aashiyana Scheme, established Daanish schools and distributed laptops and yellow cabs to help the poor. He said that Aashiyana-i-Iqbal would provide the poor with facilities that the rich enjoy. “To ensure that the project is completed quickly, I will visit the site twice a week,” the chief minister said. Sharif thanked Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani and Rangers director general who he said had helped the government in leasing the land.
