Court orders: Shalimar SHO finally registers four FIRs

Court at previous hearings directed the SHO to receive the complaints of the five petitioners seeking to lodge FIRs

The Shalimar station house officer (SHO) has finally registered four cases, shortly after Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Javaidul Hassan Chishti directed the city’s police chief to register an FIR against the SHO for not complying with court orders.

On Thursday, Assistant Sub Inspector Abid appeared in court with copies of the four FIRs. Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Javaidul Hassan Chishti asked him why a fifth FIR ordered by the court had not been registered. The ASI said that the police were seeking to contact Bushra Bibi, the complainant for the fifth case, after which the FIR would be registered within a couple of days. The court had at previous hearings directed the SHO to receive the complaints of the five petitioners seeking to lodge FIRs, but he had repeatedly ignored court orders as well as at least five show-cause notices for not turning up at court.

On March 17, the judge had directed the capital city police officer to register a case against the SHO for disobeying court orders and produce a copy of the FIR.

LHC orders quashment of FIR

The Lahore High Court on Thursday ordered the Sialkot police to quash an FIR registered by an Ahmedi family regarding the alleged abduction of their daughter who said she had converted to Islam and married against their wishes. Sana, submitted through her counsel, that she had embraced Islam on January 4, 2011 and later married a Muslim, Shoaib Ahmad, against her family’s wishes. She said her family later accepted her decision and for a while she and her husband lived with them. However, she said her family had secretly filed a dissolution of marriage suit. She said when their plan was foiled they got angry and registered a false case against Ahmad accusing him of abduction. The petitioner said she wanted to live with her husband. She requested the court to order the cancellation of the case against her husband. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik directed Sialkot police to investigate the matter in the light of Sana’s statement and quash the FIR.
