ISLAMABAD:

Small business owners staged a sit-in in front of the Parliament House building on Tuesday to compel the government to review its decision to seek additional information in tax forms. Traders want the government to withdraw Annexure D, which the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) added to income tax return forms last year. Annexure D seeks information of travelling, family expenses, education and other similar expenditures.

The FBR had added this additional annexure after finding that taxpayers, particularly the business community, were hiding their actual incomes to evade taxes. The authorities have already announced that they would not audit Annexure D information till 2014. The traders are opposing inserting form D in the tax documentation and demanding of the government to remove clause from the documentation.

FBR Chairman Mumtaz Haider Rizvi said, “We just want to know the tax return data.” The traders called off the sit-in after getting fresh assurances from Rizvi that the board would not take any action on the basis of the provided data till 2014.
