ISLAMABAD: The Asia Cup One-Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and India, played on March 18, was the first encounter between the two countries ever since the World Cup semi-final clash in 2011. The match that was anxiously awaited by fans all over the world lived up to its billing. Despite Pakistan having scored an imposing 329 batting first, I believe that the total should have been closer to 375, keeping in mind the brilliant start that the openers had given to the team.
Nevertheless, the real culprits behind the six-wicket loss turned out to be the bowlers and the fielders. Dropping Virat Kohli, who went on to play a brilliant innings, proved fatal. Our bowlers and fielders lacked energy on the field which was disappointing to see. Pakistan seemed to be playing without a game plan, which eventually helped India produce a convincing win. It is hoped that Pakistan produces a better performance in the all-important final.
