LAHORE: Osama Bin Laden was a “great martyr” while Asif Zardari is “the biggest traitor”, said Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan on Sunday.
Addressing a public meeting at a Chakwal village, Hasan said that Bin Laden had been “martyred” because he refused to obey “the Great Satan”.
He said Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani should be put behind bars because he had challenged the Supreme Court’s authority, violated his oath and committed contempt of court by refusing to write a letter to the Swiss.
“Whosoever challenges the writ of the court should be handed down deterrent punishment,” Hasan said. He added that if Babar Awan and Rehman Malik had been jailed for contempt, the prime minister would not have disobeyed the court’s orders.
Hasan said that a “gang of exploiters” was ruling the country under the garb of democracy while the common man was unable to make both ends meet. He said that corrupt people could not control corruption and the masses would have to rise against the “oppressive political system”.
The JI ameer said that Prime Minister Gilani’s only achievement was to hide the president’s corruption. He said that parliament was keen to restore NATO supplies “to facilitate the enemy in the killing of Pakistanis”. He said parliament was no longer representative of the nation.

@Abdullah: ridiculous!! of course qualification is different.
@Abdullah: do you know who Ghamidi is? please see his books.
@ abdullah
You don't have to be part of any team/jamaat/party to know if they are right or wrong. Its just plain observation. How closely you monitor the proceedings is what counts.
By the way you validated my comment in your second post. So we are on the same page I guess.
Time will prove that he was 100% right in his words...... Inshallah
I read all comments its your choice what is right and wrong. but one day on the day of Judgement you all get your answers who was right and wrong.
I wonder each of "liberals" commenting above think that OBL was the greatest terrorist ever produced that he killed around 7000 people but what about US Govt which killed 700,000 people in Iraq. Am sure that they would never say a word against US
JI chief gave a statement praising Osama Bin Laden as great Martyr.similar statements have been given by other religious parties too in the past. There have been no protests condemning such actions on the streets of Pakistan. This signals the weakness on the part of the persons/ groups who have different of opinions on this/ similar matters. History will seek explanations from the mute spectators too.
Munawaar Hasan saab this democracy (which you call garb) only gives freedom to express your opinion and not the dictatorship.
syed sahab is right,he is great.....
since you all think you're so bright, why don't you let the rest of us know exactly what you claim your osama was doing for 6 years? you can't because you're all brainwashed fools.
if he was doing anything they would have caught him...god how stupid you are
@Awais Aslam Mirza: No, he is not. Not mine, anyway. Please speak for yourself, okay? K, Thanks.
@Nasir: kis duniya mein rahte ho yaar, a place called Fools' Paradise?
Jamaat Islami's members are usually from the educated class. They used to be seen as opposed to the typical Mullah. I've read Maududi's work, and despite what one can disagree with, he at least talked rationally, moderately and emphatically. Unfortunately Munawer Hasan is taking them down the road of extremism, fanaticism, reactionism and populism
Munawar Sahab, forget Osama, tell us about those Bay Hayyaa people who report to Police for rape without four male witnesses.
Pakistanis have to make a decision in the coming elections and choose the better of the two evils - Corruption of the Mind OR Corruption for Money.
Corruption for money is seen in all countries, Including USA, India and even China. Corruption in India and China is on a much larger scale.
Pakistan's Army had the same control over the country, if not more, than what the Army in China had over its country. They only difference in the strategies of the two Armies was that Pakistan's Army introduced religion in their strategy whereas China being an atheist country, the Army there never considered religion in its strategies. Religion has never been an unifying factor within any country or amongst a group of countries and China realized this better than anyone else. China's progress has only proved it to be true.
It is naive to think Americans forget the 3300 killed at 9/11 and act like Pakistan whose 25000+ citizens and Army men were killed by terrorists and still are a confused nation to support who.
right saying by JI cheif...
way to go syed sahab! not many ppl out there have the guts to come out with the truth like urself ..may Allah bestow His mercy on u and ur likes always...
Dear Awais and Noor:
How can we praise a terrorist who openly claimed responsibility for the killings of thousands? OBL was the leader of a terrorist organization that conducted its terrorist activities throughout the world. The bombing of Al khobar towers in Saudi Arabia, the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, and the Embassy bombings in Nairobi and Kenya are all attributed to Al-Qaeda’s terrorist activities. The justice was finally served on May 2nd, when OBL was killed in Abbottabad by U.S Special Forces. There is no doubt that this world is much safer without OBL. The threat that he posed to the world with his evil ideology has been eradicated, and Al-Qaeda’s terrorist network has been dismantled. The remaining few will be caught and captured soon. Those who try to present him in a positive light should remember that according to reports, he did not even want his own children to join Al-Qaeda.
http://tribune.com.pk/story/160921/osamas-will-bin-laden-says-his-children-must-not-join-al-qaeda/
OBL was a threat to all those nations that oppose terrorism and want to live in peace. We must look at the facts to prevent ourselves from being misled and misguided. And we must support our forces in targeting those who are looking to infiltrate our lands with their acts of terror. MAJ Nevers,
@Usman: Killer of thousands!!! An ambiguous statement,What about USA,who killed tens of thousands innocent Muslim across the globe and rampage is still going on???
True Osama is was and will be the the great martyr. Soon the truth will uncover and this pro westren media is hiding facts
He is entitled to his opinion. Try to stop and look at reasons WHY he has this stance. Koi bunda hey jo finally MEROOBIYAT ka shikaar nahi hey... unlike most of the commenters here. He speaks for a normal pakistani which is the staggering majority.
Good to see the pain in our liberal secular intelctuals near the pain be slow the pain will increase may be a day come when it will reach our heads.
i have been saying for long that now the whole world knows who is responsible for all the mayhem.All the 40 chors of the dafan council .
I don't know what's wrong with this man seriously why is he even in politics in the first place?isn't it time for him to retire?
@Nasir: yes it was an inside job - KFC and McDonalds were responsible for it - I think the covert pepsi organisation was also involved . please grow up
Killer of thousands of innocent people in the world is now martyr. Great Munawar Hasan
Osama Good, Zardari Bad and he himself is a Curse On Our Country. I fail to understand that why rogue elements get so much exposure in media?
@MAD This guy is a serial offender and this is not a one off incident. Have you watched his infamous opinions on Hudood Ordinance?
@fairhope:
Funny isnt it? usually those who were never part of JI in their entire life, are first to talk about damage done to JI and to its reputation and whats even more amazing, they advise the top brass who elected the Syed Munawar as ameer of JI in the first place to send him to anger management class
@PostMan:
Courage=10/10 Intellectual Honesty=10/10
I used to call him Munawar Hasan aka Hudood Ordinance. Now it will be "aka Martyr Osama". I wish i could choose "aka Great Satan" though. Lol
@amar: I think you meant thousands of 'innocent marines'
No jibe at Imran Khan for supposedly being in Alliance with JI? How come leh?
@amadha: yes he has, Unlike Zardari and Ghamdi he has Masters in Islamic Studies along with Masters in Sociology
@Reasoner:
so much for freedom of speech !
good job Syed sb !! It takes alot of courage speak against the media flow, and only true leaders can do this !
I wonder how so many readers consider this pro-terrorism, arrogant and in-tolerant guy's rubbish statement for comments. Does he worth? Think again.
I have rarely heard anything sensible come out of Mr.Munawar's mouth, but this takes the cherry. I shudder at the thought of these people coming to power in Pakistan.
Since they stopped getting funding from the US in the 80s and ISI in the 90s, the JI has become more and more irrelevant as a political force. No wonder Mr. Munawar is so upset.
Maulana Maududi the Jamaat head was sentenced to death by a court ( military court) but the Government released him in 1953. So Mr Munawar Hasan what do you so on that
I urge everyone to protest in the streets acrosss pakistan against this terrorist outfit JUI who call Osama a martyr... he supports all the deaths of innocents in Pakistan.
Munawer Hasan is becoming another Osama----if in his view Osam was good and a "great martyr"----then well, I wish that he joins his, this, good man soon and become even a 'greater martyr'-------but hopefully sooner than he expects it.
@Iron hand: Agree with your comments. The support for OBL is not only from the JI chief and section of the people but also from the establishments as well since he could stay along with his family for six long years in the heart of the country un-noticed.
Deaf dumb and blind... thats all i can say about our current religious party leaders
9/11 was an inside job. Osama never claimed responsibility on twin towers attacks. However, he praised the attackers.
Just watch Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) by Michael Moore. The documentary clearly brought startling information and raised critical question which make the entire story of Bush-Administration just a lie or eyewash.
@Iron hand The opinion polls have inherent flaw with respect to standard deviation from norm. The norm in case of developing countries is almost impossible to measure. Hence, the opinion polls are generally bogus with respect to countries like Pakistan.
Now to the point, Mr. Munawar, Osama Laden is responsible for murder of tens of thousands of Pakistani innocent muslims in his so called suiside Jehad. Osama is the defination of evil and taking Koranic versus out of context to spoil minds for evil causes.
Please wake up or perhaps Die. Do you know that Son of your partys former chief resides in the US and isa proud US citize ? So why is he living in US when you and your party calls US the Satan. There is no bigger Satan than yourself and the Islamic parties of Pakistan.
And can the same court take an action against this man who supports a killer, may I ask him what they di when they were in power? These bigots the ideological sons of Osama .
Munawar saab is Right-------- JI is the only one party who can brought a positive change in Pakistan
@Ali Salman Alvi: JI not only supported General Zia, they also supported gretest General Yahya the great. One of Yahya important minister Nawabzada Sher Ali Khan (brother of Nawab Iftikhar Patodi grand father of Indian actor Saif Ali Khan) was member of JI.
These are the sentiments of most Pakistanis, if opinion polls are to be believed.
Since Mr. Munawar became the AMEER of JI, his hot headedness has brought a lot of damage to the credibility of JI. By far JI is the most moderate Religious party in Pakistan, the top brass should go in Damage Control and send Mr. Munawar to Anger Management classes.
Corrupt politicans are acceptable - but not terrorists like Jamat e Islami!
agreed, stupid comments are mentioned above
There is no doubt, Osama is a great martyr.
Munawar hassan's statement is the voice of Pakistan, your are very great man Mr. Munawar, May Allah Bless you.
At least there is some one from Pakistani politics who have potential to speak and stand against American Invasion and Right ... May Allah be with them ...
Only those will be shocked who expect something different from him and JI
People wonder why there are so many terrorists’ killings of Pakistanis. Now, at least you know who supports them.
100% true munawar sahab!!
There is no use killing terrorists in the borders while leaving original terrorists in the midst of the country.
Time will prove, if he was right in his statement or not...
Zardari bad. Osama (much) worse.
OSAMA terray JANISAR, Beshumar, Beshumar...
JI usually didnt go for stuff like this. They were the religious party with somewhat more commonsense than the rest. So what just happenned. Munawar Hasan in one statement just took his party from its somewhat moderate stance to an out and out extremist one.
If you want to know one of the groups responsible for harboring the people killing you, there you go.
Idiocy=1. Common Sense=0
Mr. Munawar, Jamat e Islami is the worst thing ever to hit Pakistan. Nothing has damaged us more than you and your party. You head the same party that opposed Pakistan Movement back in 1947. Be mindful of your history. You head the party that supported the worst military dictator Zia ul Haq fervently. Last but not the least you head the party that is nurturing extremism and producing terrorists for TTP, LeJ, SSP and other banned outfits.
Osama obeyed the Great Satan some 30 years ago in Afghanistan.
Why are our religious parties so in love with murderers of thousands of Pakistanis?? :/
How a person who killed thousands of innocent people of all the religions can be a martyr?? Allaha rightfully punished him for his deeds
Wonderful!
JI still misses the dollar jihad of 80s; its angry because US ditched it after Soviet withdrawal
And this from the chief of Largest religious party in Pakistan.Perhaps a glimpse of things to come.I am sure Mr Munnawar has enough knowledge of Islam to pass this statement. and i will not contradict his religious understanding.One more reason to support Asif Ali Zardari.
Munawar Hasan should be put behind bars for declaring Osama 'great martyr' !
Total nonsense, each and every line of this politician. I wonder how people tolerate him
